Good to know. Some day, when i'm about to burn $40, i'll pick up a time core and fuck around with it. Worst case scenario, i break the thing, better scenario, i find an interesting mistake, best scenario, i accidentally crack the code & decide i like the interesting mistake better.zzuFrepuS wrote:Confuzzled wrote:Never been to freestompboxes before...
I have seen these images before. The real trick is figuring out where the orange wire is connected to as there are 2 boards and the only bend point visible is the blue wire.
As sloppy as the work is, the guy really has to be the most patient person on the planet to work in such a tight space.
pretty sure the orange wire is going some where around the PSU, probably to starve voltage.

Re: Seppuku FX
the funniest part for me is, that a dying battery you already have is probably 80% of the sound from this $200 bend.
i could be totally wrong but from what i've seen, thats what it looks like.
edit:
probably wrong, that Orange wire is actually three wires? didn't see that before.

Correct. That's a DW though. ICW might be less complex.zzuFrepuS wrote:That Orange wire is actually three wires?

I opened mine to look at where he could have bent and realized, I really don't know what the fuck I'm doing. Also, he cuts the battery out so its running off an external power source and from what I understand is tricky because of the possibility of frying the unit.
Whatever he's doing in between those boards is where the magic is happening.

he has to cut the battery snap out, where else would the $5.00 in parts go? that has nothing to with his bend.Confuzzled wrote:I opened mine to look at where he could have bent and realized, I really don't know what the fuck I'm doing. Ok so maybe not magic,But until someone can figure out where that orange wire connects to or is generous enough to share a pic of their $300 circuit bent $40 pedal with $5 worth of parts it's a guessing game that I don't have the time to invest in.

Might be worth just researching and figuring things out instead of wasting a year on looking for gutshots to go down a path that has been done. That is where people find real fun. Be influenced/inspired but the intention to copy (seemingly out of spite from the posted pictures). Don't complain about a guy that sells around 30 pedals a year, it ain't worth the time. Let everyone find their own path and enjoy what they enjoy. 300 on a circuit bend pedal is still a better investment then 300 at a bar or strip club...and people spend 300 on fuzz faces with about the same amount of part investment
.
I don't mind people wanting to copy or wanting to get a specific sound outside their means....but complaining about it and getting somewhat hateful gets no one anywhere...all it does is waste bandwidth. I have several pedals, including over 30 ring mods...I haven't looked in any except maybe 4...it just doesn't interest me. There are enough academic, spec sheets, and actual circuits out there to really find new and interesting stuff instead of doing what in production people are doing. If I had just cloned my SPK, I never would have discovered vactrol balanced modulation, types of telegraph modulation, and other ingesting circuits. It is a blast and I am really discovering what I am looking for...
I do have a lot of respect for people like dig2it and cozy builder that really try to document and learn from older designs that are really out reach for most people...and try to progress things and help people (they aren't the only ones that do this, just an off the top of head names)...sadly there are people that have only one intention: money and cutting prices to insure volume of sales...and it sucks for the small guy with good intentions of learning and building for fun...but that is a situation that is impossible to work out.
Just have fun and discover new things...if you don't think the work is worth it or that good improve it! Have a blast!

Thank you for that post, LG! First I started to hear about the origins of the IC, I just wanted to get a Nux for myself instead & see what I could do with it, and those links were really helpful.

Re: Seppuku FX
while i totally agree with most of what you said the problem for me is transparency. i feel that charging what he does is somewhat deceitful as it implies a lot of intellectual or physical value, of which there is not much of in these mods. true he is the only one know knows exactly whats going on, so as long as people are willing to pay more power to him... i dont believe saying that makes me a complainer or a hateful person. I think the quote from the new klon is very applicable: "the ridiculous hype that offends so many is not of my making"
its hard not to get somewhat ruffled, but at the same time you really can't fault him.

Re: Seppuku FX
I do not fault Rhys at all. He makes a lot of incredible sounding and interesting pedals that i would love to play one day, and even if that is a lot more tghan i would charge, he can do what he wants. i would rather give him money for a pedal like the eccodrone or kompact kassette, personally. I am intrigued by the bends he did on the DW/ICW, but cannot personally stomach the price. If i were to bend a Nux, i would love to know what he did as a starting point, but i would want to try more. His prices are, or apparently have gotten, very high, but whatever. There are so many effects and shit out there, i will survive. There are old Boss and Digitech pedals still out there begging to be abused. Wanting to fry some Behringer VD400's and DC-2 clones, soon.
