Parallel Delays (2 Delay Pedals into 2 different amps)

Post by the_frey »

Hey guys, wondering if anybody else uses this trick? It's most commonly a shoegaze thing I suppose, but I play in a more math/tech band and still use it all the time. On channel A (lead) I've got a DD6 into a TC HoF in a loop, and on Channel B (rhythm) I've got a Boss PS2 delay and a Red Panda Particle. Mixing these results in a lot of different options!

For the curious... I also did a demo using about $50-60 (£50) worth of gear on my channel (Behringer DD400, Donner Yellow Fall), so you can do it on the cheap if you want to try it!

I have three amps available and taps out of the stereo rack units run into the studio board (with 24 tracks on tap discrete into the DAW).

Multiple stereo delays are my bread and butter.

I have a Digi Timebender, Boss DD-20, Lexicon Vortex, the venerable Quadraverb+, a pair of Digitech RDS LFO delays (that can be run to separate channels), plus taps off the RE-20 and a wet-only feed off the actual Space Echo.

How do you control so many delays - or is it deliberately just a wash effect you're going for?

Depends on what effect. I run most parallel, I tune 'em until they sound right.

A few are set to basic max delay faux Space Echo, multiples of which work very well together.

Vortex is tap tempo amplitude modulated hell on most of my patches.

You use certain ones for certain things and certain sounds, and blend to fit. It's not a wash per se but a bed of insanity, like shortwave cackling from space.
