What other forums do you visit for synth?

Post by popvulture »

Curious as to where else y'all frequent when it comes to synth stuff.

I've checked out Muffwiggler, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for, since it's pretty much 100% modular and I haven't let myself be bitten by that bug yet. Plus there seems to be a pattern of someone introducing a new piece of gear, then dweebs arguing for several pages about whether said gear is modular or semi-modular.

I've got a Juno 60 and a Moog Rogue, looking to get a Bass Station and probably some sort of hardware drum machine. Just looking for general opinions/bullshitting about gear. In addition to ILF, of course.

Vintagesynth? Synthtopia? Any cool ones out there, preferably as vulgar and non-lame as we are on here?

Muffs general gear forum is good for what you want.
Other than that, specific manufacturer's forums are alright. I have spent time on Dave Smith's and Elektron's.

Ah cool, must've overlooked the MW general section.

Also, Muffwiggler General = good term.

I haven't been active in ages, but as I recall E-M had a nice solid & friendly vibe and much better SNR than gearslutz...

http://electro-music.com/forum/

I don't know how vulgar it gets though, seems pretty all ages as I recall.

Yeah -- Gearslutz SNR is off the charts, but it gets a ton of traffic and has lots good info if you can tune out all the bullshit. VSE doesn't get enough activity and is too stodgy to promote new users.

Yeah, as mentioned above the General Gear section of Muffwiggler can be good. But at the risk of sounding like a bitter old-timer, Muff seems more and more full of annoying morons these days. It used to be my main stop for music-related stuff but I almost stopped posting there and only read a little bit. There are still lots of smart and interesting people there but the ratio of stupid moron to decent person has skyrocketed in the past year or so... :(

I can typically only last about 10 minutes on Gearslutz before wanting to apply a belt sander to all of my sensory organs, but that said, I haven't had the pleasure of perusing their synth pages.

Doesn't have to be vulgar obv, just don't wanna worry about saying fuck and offending some P&Ws. I'm TGP damaged, guys.
