It'd probably be passable for sure, but those other two are pretty fucking insane man. The RV-6 is the only one I haven't touched yet, but the other two are awesome.

The spring mode is excellent, along with the rest of the pedal. Sounds way nicer than the RV-5 all round.plaidbeer wrote:Resurrecting an older thread, but I'm looking for a reverb pedal and like the Super Spring Theory, Topanga, and RV-6. I know the RV-6 has other modes, but is its spring any good?
FWIW I must have been through about 20 reverb pedals over the years, and always prefer spring and plate types, and I've owned a fender spring tank, and have a surfy bear fet reverb waiting to have a cab made up for it. The RV-6 spring mode is like a really good onboard amp reverb that can be pushed toward more pronounced surf style reverb. It doesn't do full-on OTT spring tank surf tones, but to be fair that would be asking quite a lot.
If you're just after a dedicated spring reverb I'd suggest trying the Topanga as well if you can. It captures the feel of using a tank exceptionally well. Especially at 18v. I A/B'd it with the fender tank, and on more subtle settings I'd forget which one I had on.
As for the modulation mode on the RV-6, I still had my RV-5 to compare them side by side, and it's definitely the same algorithm (?) but they've shaved off the little bit of the gentle tremolo-like throb on the low end. It's still there, just way more subtle, but that's the only difference as far as the core tone of the modulate reverb goes. I was never actually that into it with the RV-5 to be honest, but I've found myself using it a lot on the RV-6.

Further resurrection! (Because why start another RV-6 thread?)
How dark can the RV-6 get? I want a stereo hall that sounds a bit like my RV-3 with the tone knob all the way down, and the RV-5 is WAY too bright.
Everyone is doing demos of the freaking shimmer effect, but I can't find any good straightforward comparisons like this one.
