Boss slicer

Been thinking about buying one of these to make some nice rhytmic stuff(i´ve been listening to Health) I thinking of mainly using it on synths and noise, not so much on guitar. Anyone have any experience with this one? any cheaper/better alternatives? Wouldnt mind using a VST since im running my guitar through ableton.

Nice, when I first heard the new Health album I was like "Damn, that sounds awesome..." and then I found out they used the Slicer, which my friends would joke that such a useless effect could not possibly need to be made into a boss dual pedal. I went home and ran an EQ pedal into the Slicer effect on my 303 in a feedback loop and it was amazing....

If you're using Ableton than I would suggest the plug-in as opposed to buying a $200+ pedal. It's not that great on guitar, but its diff sick on synths.

I've been GASing for one of these on and off since they were released. At the moment I'm kinda regarding it as a fancy schmancy tremolo, but if I see one for cheapz I'll pounce on it.

I bought a Slicer when they first came out because I thought it would be the most amazing thing in the world.
I returned it a month later because drummers don't like to count and it was frustrating, trying to incorporate the Slicer into the band's music.

Now that I'm no longer in a band, I kind of wish I had it again cuz it really is a fun little toy. I'll bet it'd be even more fun if you're using a floop in your chain. I didn't even know those things existed when I had the Slicer. The absolute best would be to have the Slicer & a floop in one box... Like an Utter Stutter on crack, acid and methamphetamines all at the same time.

I can see how that might be a problem, im thinking of midi syncing it to ableton. Since im not in a "classic" band setting right now i think it will work out fine. Its just me, and another guy who plays bass, so we usually just record a drum loop or something to keep the BPM when we're working on song ideas and looping that. So the slicer could be fun a fun addition, so i could make weird rhythmic stuff.

I did find a VST that could do some of the same stuff, + it is free! Check it out:

the stormgate 1 is a free VST. I dont know how much extra stuff you get by upgrading to the newest version or how much it costs, but i briefly tried the stormgate yesterday and it seemed pretty cool.

I think he uses a Moog ring modulator. He was using that when i saw them live 2? years ago. That's a pretty big part of that specific sound i think, but don quote me on that, i don't own one of those, and i don't play bass, but that's the first thing that struck me.

I wonder if you could hook up a trigger to your drummers bass drum and run it through a midi converter and use it to do the tempo for the slicer... you think that'd work?

I would've guessed a flanger set to manual with a lot of feedback, or a very short delay with feedback
