Trump would actually love those: Fighting Muslims to defend our trade routes.

I still don't understand how you guys have one of the most, if not, THE MOST, multicultural populations on the planet and you still manage to divide on issues in a binary way.
Black and white, left and right, gay and straight etc.
I think that's why modern two party systems don't work, it's because society was nevertheless binary, no matter how hard you try to shove everything into two boxes.
Not that I can talk.
I live in a country that just watered down its Safe Schools Policy to keep the nut job Christians from feeling like "they were under constant attack from Rainbow Politics".
No shit. That is the actual rhetoric these shitbags employed.
Ugh, gotta vote local today and fill out this referendum.
Not that it will actually change anything.

ugh, this shit makes me fucking furious. we don't even have an enormous christian population here and this shit can still happen, speaks volumes for the gross over-representation of ACL-pandering fuckwits in politics.Iommic Pope wrote:Not that I can talk.

my opinion on the US election is obviously not particularly valuable but i have to say i find it mind-boggling the Sanders is trailing so much. you have a very clearly not-that-shitty candidate for once and even less conservative people seem to be making excuses about 'electability' and using the questionable degree to which he'd actually be able to change anything as a reason to not take him seriously. I don't see why any of that really matters, you're in a position now where if you want to fix all of these glaring social and economic issues there are going to have to be compromises and any progress is going to be slow and gradual; it might get worse before it gets better, but it can still get better.
It's plain to see that a fair number of people are actually fucking excited by the prospect of somebody like Trump starting a third world war or something. it's scary as fuck, and i think that if things get any worse other countries are going to have to intervene, because anyone anywhere concerned for the well-being of their family and friends doesn't want a racist agro billionaire in charge of a country with enormous military bases in every fucking corner of the globe.

^This.
Yeah I don't know how we've managed to become more divisive about this shit despite having a seemingly more open dialogue about these issues in recent times.
Most people I meet and talk to seem to be alright.
But then I run into racist, homophobic bogans occasionally and it gets me wondering if they actually ARE the majority and I'm just not exposed to them as often in my little bubble of human service world.
Yeah those ultra conservative Christians that think giving trans kids some options in schools is gonna turn the world into some genital mutilating drag revue really are few and far between, but fuck they whinge louder and harder than anyone else.
Someone really needs to tell them to shut the fuck up because it's actually most of us who tolerate them.
With their fuckin door knocking, no blood transfusion, book burning, creationist brand of idiocy and irritation.

Re: Does it even really make a difference who the next POTUS
unfortunately it isn't mind boggling to me, many of the people who support bernie don't or can't vote. in texas we have a voter law ID, passed by conservatives who obviously have an interest in retaining their status quo. that law only effects minorities and makes it hard for them to vote. if you are regular person or a younger person (young libs seem to overwhelming like Bernie in my town) you still have to be on top of making sure you're registered to vote, and not only that, you have to be registered in the correct country; many of my classmates didn't vote in the primary because they were registered in their home city, and are not allowed to vote outside their district. just meaningless bureaucracy that only makes it hard for people to participate. at that, texas is so big that many of my friends live anywhere from 1-8 hours away from where they are going to college, so they would have to invest twice that time and energy in traveling to vote.backwardsvoyager wrote:

then there's the rest of texas, lots of rural counties, religion, small towns, lots of social pressure to form a congruent set of conservative politic ideas shared amongst people like them (race is irrelevant in this regard from my experience). lots of people watching fox news and eating fast food, going to church. then there's the urban hubs, slightly progressive, but still largely lazy enough to not be on top of voting, or perhaps having voter apathy. texas is a depressing place to live in a lot of areas, so a lot of people who hold progressive ideals correctly recognize that the system is largely flawed, but don't realize that participating is momentum from unraveling the flaws of the system from inside itself and that voting can do you no harm.
Hilary won in texas by a landslide, no one was that surprised. old people vote, young people are edgy or whatever and don't vote.
also John, while I agree with your points, you were being a dick to Jwar, (breaking ILFs one simple rule) someone I don't share many beliefs with from reading his posts, but someone I respect as a fellow human being, on aggregate just as delusional as you, myself, and anyone else.

I should have said I still think Bernie can win, I dont really care for the speculation, I don't really like when people try to call shit ahead of time, it's like find something better to spend your thoughts on; or just vote and shut up

Re: Does it even really make a difference who the next POTUS
I think Bernie's done fantastically well to come out of almost national obscurity (with no big doners), against a candidate that has had the spotlight for over thirty years and is backed by most of the democratic party. That it is as close as it is, is amazing.
