I think the fastest the rate knob gets is at about 2:55 (pot position wise). It is somewhat hard to see, though, because the glare on those knobs can be mistaken for the pointer dash. You also have to consider how the lag knob affects the rate in terms of sharpening or detuning the signal. When I made my initial comment, I said similar, which is subjective to the user. I didn't mean to give the impression that it's a pure substitute, only that it may fall in that neighborhood with proper tweaking. I will have to play it personally, though, to evaluate how it compares at extreme settings to other PT2399 pedals I've owned.Pepe wrote:Didn't know that it was not the final design. But the rate knob is fully dimed, isn't it? And the Mid Warp is superfast and I think that's half of its awesomeness - and I talked about the crazy sounds. I had my doubts that slightly higher depth settings of this shown pedal could have such an enormous impact. The depth knob was at 03:00h or so, or am I wrong? Can't see the video right now.

Okay, it can be that I haven't seen it correctly, especially in that tiny format of the embedded video.

Doesn't really matter, though, Pepe. I think you were right to suggest the MW has greater mod depth. I've listened to 4 clips of the Julia, and none of them offer fully maxed out settings, where the effect is allowed to decay on its own. Still though...the MW has more width/body than the Julia, from the clips available.Pepe wrote:Okay, it can be that I haven't seen it correctly, especially in that tiny format of the embedded video.
I think I will blend the Julia with a Sea Machine or a Warped Vinyl to see what kinds of stacked, seasick sounds I can create. ---Are you going to buy a VB-2w in the future?

I had an original VB-2 for ~6 months. Taught me that I don't really have a need for a vibrato-only pedal. It's a great machine, though. I have never had a better analog vibrato pedal*: no volume drop, crystal clear sound - it sounds just like the input signal, but with modulation. Only downside: modulation speed is always too fast for gentle chorus sounds if you run the original signal in parallel. If the VB-2W comes only half as close to the sound of the VB-2, it's a great machine. I would only buy (or borrow) it for a demo.
*the others are: Rocktron Vertigo Vibe (didn't like it at all), Marshall Vibratrem (bad volume boost in tremolo mode; way too subtle vibrato mode), Hotone ROTO (subtle, but good vibrato mode; awesome leslie-like rotary speaker mode)

believe it or not the Wampler Nirvana Chorus is one of the best i've found at this sound, but i want to see if i'm missing any amazing stuff out there

wow, this sounds really nice
I had a mindwarp way way back when they were about 140 bucks new. Sounded really cool but I sold it because there was a huge volume drop with it.

Oh - in my case it's rather a slight volume boost, but in a good way.

Yup.Pepe wrote:Oh - in my case it's rather a slight volume boost, but in a good way.
My mind warp gets loud (more above unity than something like the 88). But the pt chip did burn out when ST had it for a bit (less volume, more distorted). Replaced it and no problem.

The Mind Warp and the Pitch Pirate are very similar in design. The Pitch Pirate is just more adjustable.
There are layouts out there for the Mind Warp if you desperately want one (the old one, at least), but definitely look further into other PT2399 delays and modulators.
Also +1 for Ezhi and Aka. From what little I've heard his stuff goes into that territory and completely tears a new hole in the fabric of existence.

Can confirm a love for the E&A The Tape+ ish (mine is lacking 2 of the switches). Was also going to recommend searching for mind warp schematics if it is a must have, or looking into the pitch pirate deluxe. Need to find out more about the electric yggdrasil, personally.
