Baritone pickups, what's everyone using?
I got a cheap Douglas lp bari and the stock pickups are meh. What's everyone using? I was thinking a GFS VEH but I wanna try something new

I ended putting a set of blackouts in mine, mainly just cause I had them. Not too bad, being active they give a pretty full frequency range. My buddy has a Jerry Jones Bari, and those lipsticks sound pretty damn good. Could always do GFS Lipstick buckers =)

I've tried pretty much everything, P90s reign supreme.

I had one with P Rails and only thought they sounded ok (not much variation In the sound in my opinion). I briefly played a fellow ILFers with alumitone humbuckers and the clarity/sustain was pretty cool.

I've got Alumitones in my Bass VI, best pickups ever. Will pop a pair in my bari too.kbit wrote:I had one with P Rails and only thought they sounded ok (not much variation In the sound in my opinion). Epiphone dog ear p90's which sound great despite the guitar being an eastwood (worst qc ever).
Plenty of noise, little discernible skill or talent

SD ALT 8 in the bridge, SD Screamin Demon in the neck - its also a bridge pickup but sounds good in the neck. Not too bassy.

i have a Dimarzio EJ custom in the bridge & a GFS 'lil puncher' in the neck. both sound pretty great (although i go back & forth on whether the EJ is too mid-heavy, or not).

Stock lipsticks in my Dano and they sound awesome, as all lipsticks do.

Re: Baritone pickups, what's everyone using?
I'm a big fan of Bill Lawrence, Wilde or Bill and Becky (whatever name you prefer) L500XL. They're super articulate and clear, and depending on your pot value, can be accustomed to any guitar. Inexpensive and hand made in the US. I've got them in two, baritones and they rip in the bridge.
In the neck, I like Wilde L500C or Dimarzio PAF Pros. They have kind of a similar vibe, with the Dimarzio being a bit warmer. Either one sounds great IMO.

Re: Baritone pickups, what's everyone using?
I've had 8 different baritone guitars with different kinds of pickups. Lipsticks are great if you just want the spagetti western/twang/tictac sound.
For a fuller but still twangy sound I like the GFS Surf90s or filtertrons(I used Lollartrons).
Had both those pickups in the Hagstrom Viking Baritone I used to have.
Now I got a EGC baritone and use EGC buckers.
