NDMD +question about Echoplex 2

Post by Psyre »

Just picked up this super clean Maestro Rhythm King mk2. This thing can POUND it, glorious cymbals, and the rhythm stacking is awesome.

Same dude has an echoplex 2 I'm wanting, and if it's priced like the Maestro I can actually probably afford it. Is there any pro/con to the EP2? What sort of price range is considered "good" ?

Does anyone know how the EP-2's compare to other tape units? I guess in both a sound and durability sense?

I am a big fan of Echoplexes. The advantage is that the echoes are stronger at longer times because the speed is constant, while variable motor speed devices like Roland Space Echoes lose fidelity on longer delays. EP2s and EP3s are the good ones. EP2 has a tube, has a bit more grit to the repeats, EP3 has a sweeter tone in comparison. EP4s aren't sought after because they have an extra components that add a lot of compression. EP1s are sort of all over the place in reliability, and a case where the first generation was surpassed by the successor in quality and function.

The EP2 definitely seems like the one I want. Good that I won't find it redundant when I eventually get a RE-201 ;)

It looks like they are selling in the $500-600 range (although current listing are $1,000+.....

It's missing the lid, but I think I could build one no problem. I'm really hoping I can get it in the $300-400 range. I believe it includes 3 or 4 extra cartridges.
