Which Fuzz Pedal should I keep?

Post by joe2517 »

Hey guys,

I've been looking to downsize the amount of gear I have and I'm looking to sell either my Danelectro Cool Cat Fuzz V1 or my Zoom Ultra Fuzz; I've been A/Bing them both all evening and now they're starting to sound the same. I know both of these are decent fuzzes for their price point but which should I consider 'better' and therefore keep?

Cheers

Hey man. I don't know about the cool cat. But I have the zoom, and I believe it wins in quality and versatility, so if they sound the same keep that one. Also, the danelectro owner is a homophobe if that is of any concern to you.

Thanks for the reply man. Didn't know that about Danelectro, but yeah, that's really disappointing to hear. Not sure if I'd benefit from spending more time tweaking the Zoom; so many knobs...

I feel like the knobs are very straight forward though! Or just sell both and pick up a suneater :thumb:

Well, the Ultra Fuzz is probably a little more versatile, but will fetch more on the open market.

Cool Cat is more basic and will net you less.

Not sure that helps. :idk:

Keep the Zoom - the dano is easier to replace if you regret it. Or sell them both.

Get rid of the Dano... because Dano's president is not cool.

Those danos can be bought cheap every day of the week. So yeah, keep the zoom, it won't be as easy to score another one if you end up regretting your decision later down the line...:idk:

Zoom Ultra Fuzz prices seem to be at an all-time high on Reverb, so you may be able to score a decent trade or enough capital to invest in other, quality gear if you liquidate the UF-01. however, I'd also second the assertion of other forumites that the Ultra Fuzz is the most flexible of your two, current options and may be the one worth retaining. Do you have a sense of what fuzz tones you would prefer to have on hand? Though some find the UF-01 a tinge sterile-sounding, a bit of knob twiddling yields a variety of fuzz and even overdrive textures.
