Randys Revenge is $250 new direct from Fairfield.

I'm gonna pick LG's brains when I get mine in.

I feel like it's not taking a chance to buy it because I can always use a trem vibe if I can't ring.

This is the wrong thread.

For dirt, there are literally hundreds of options that are bass-friendly. Currently my gigging board has an Elements for low-gain stuff, an Algal Bloom with added body control for extra boom, and a fOXX Tone Machine clone for raspy fuzz. The Tone Machine is the only one that cuts a little bit of bass, but I mostly use that one for lead lines or when I'm playing an intro/interlude by myself so it doesn't matter. Also the Mini is amazing on bass.

As far as modulation, I've never really had a big problem with things being bass friendly, but I will echo what was said earlier that the DOD FX72 is the fattest flanger I've ever heard, and it really makes the bass registers wobble like a mad man. It's still my favorite flanger, and I've tried a ton.

BC and I have been in active agreement on this for something like a decade, fwiw. The bypass leaves something to be desired and it definitely doesn't sound 'natural' but it does sound fucking great.

I like DOD pedals so I'll definitely investigate the FX72. Are DOD's other modulation pedals useful for bass?

I would go out on a limb and aasume any DOD FX series modulation pedal that says Bass in front is using the same crossover/input circuit in front of the same circuit as its respective "regular" mod pedal. From what I have read of the schematics and information available online, this is the case with the stereo flanger/bass stero flanger, and the stereo chorus/bass stereo chorus. So, if you find a DOD bass pedal that seems interesting, but can't find demos, you could look up its sister circuit.

I tried out all of the DOD chorus pedals a handful of years back, and actually found that my favorite one wasn't the "bass" one, but the FX67 Stereo Turbo Chorus. It's actually two separate chorus circuits in one box, and if you use stereo outs, each one goes out a different output. If you only use the mono output, it sums the two choruses together, so you can get some cool complex modulation patterns. Much more lush than the standard chorus. Never had any problems with it cutting low-end or not playing with bass.

Some old Maxon chorus (maybe one model was sold as Ibanez outside Japan too) also do this (dual LFO chorus). I'm probably going to buy one this week-end (and use it with bass and synths) :)

getting a little off topic, I wish more pedals allowed you to use a stereo effect on a mono or stereo signal. It would play so nicely with stereo synths, stereo guitar setups, and drum machines.

[reposting for relevance]
This was my entry for BILF, put together specifically for a fretless Jazz Bass

Misty Cave > SB7 > Big Muff v6 > BitQuest(w/ ev-5) > PC2A

Compressor is always-on. Sometimes it's boosting, sometimes it's attenuating, sometimes it's compressing, sometimes it's peak-limiting...but no matter what makes everything in front of it (BitQuest especially) sound bigger & better.
SB7 has these weird *randomish* swirly-chaos filter settings in Synth 1/Synth 2 mode. See vid 4 more info :36s

It's my all-time fav bass setup I've put together...and photographed...where I cant help but smile while looking at it :)*

I love seeing other fretless bass boards. Thank you.

The Misty Cave, in particular is a must-try, as is the BitQuest. I prefer them both w/ bass...specifically fretless...far more than using either w/ guitar. That's no shade...they're great w/ guitar. But sliding & bending single, low strings is magical on a smooth neck

I would like to try a BitQuest but they seem to be hard to get hold of at the moment. A lot of bassists seem to use compressors/limiters, is that something I should consider? Or would overdrive serve a similar purpose?

I actually have a misty cave, i totally wanted to fall in love with it, but i just don't think it is for me. I found myself thinking i would prefer a chorus/flanger or reverb in most cases.  wanted to love it. I think it might actually be too weird for me. Really do wanna fuck around with more weird pitch and modulation effects with fretless tho. Really enjoy a good octave up fuzz and delay on fretless.
