I wish Past Lives kept making music because they were SO GOOD.
Pity Sex has gotten worse with every release but I'll still check out the new stuff at least once. Probably see then live when I'm there to see someone else (has happened twice) and not hate it.

I dunno, I think this new song is pretty meh, and the other two releases are both good. But I get where you're coming from.
In this same vein of music, I recently saw Lemuria and Kind of Like Spitting play, and they were both pretty solid. I downloaded KOLS's discog and there's some really angular, lyrical tracks.

When I saw lemuria live (it was right around the release of pebble) they had some of the best tones I had, and still have, heard from a live band. Bassist was through a Traynor and Sheena was through a garnet.

Can't confirm the Garnet but I noticed the Traynor. Bassist was legit one of the nicest guys I'd talked to in ages, sat and talked to him for a long time about pop punk and whatnot (Pity Sex was mentioned). We were laughing at how "blowing up" in the pop punk scene is when 40 people attend your shows (that's about how many were at this one, in Montreal no less). So many of their songs are really amazing, "Pleaser," "Varoom Allure," such an interesting vocal dynamic IMO
When I get really emo* I put this one and scream along with the "Shut up" part:
