Looks like fun and sounds good! If I'm going to be dickish, some of those transitions around the 2 min mark were a little too abrupt for my taste and messed with the smooth flow of that droneish backing track. The fade out was great though! But yeah, nice session and I can't wait to hear more demos of this from you. NOW RUN IT THROUGH YOUR BOARD!! :!!!:

Great start, Brandsmannen!

OP-1 has some wicked effects inside. He might find himself running his guitar through it. :thumb:

Yeah, one thing that people should be dickish about though is that I accidentally shortened the loop with one tick on the green knob so it clips.Oh well, learning curve and all that. As soon as I find my appropriate adapters this thing will run through space, memory loss, timebender, el cap and anything else cool. Still waiting for my microgranny to pair it with though

Yeah it does! Way better than I would've though! Maybe the reverb leaves a little to be desired. Or I mean it's good, but a a reverb more suitable for drums would be handy (unless there is and I've missed it)

Thanks man! Mogwai was one of the band that got me playing music again after not really doing anything for a few years, so I really like hearing that

I just now bumped into this thread, and that little OP-1 demo did'n't help my GAS. Been on the fence about this for ages, cause it's quite a chunk of cash for something so minimalistic. Lotsa "nah, just go the ipad route" type of comments on the net, and a lot of people seem to think the OP-1 isn't as powerful as other synths in that price range...

That demo is actualy the first time I came across an OP-1 clip that's not cheesy tecno or dubstep or whatever.

So my question: What's the learning curve on this thing for a guitarist who's pretty much clueless when it comes to synths and drum machines? Any major limitations, any regrets or suggestions if they were to come up with an OP-2 V2?

Sorry to hijack a bit, Nils...

fridget midget: I think they are going to stick with the OP-1 v.1 for a while. They debuted a new video synth/drum machine/synth at namm. No screen, but it works via bluetood (and maybe HDMI adapter) to screens...looked like 3 rows of buttons plus for knobs...OP-X. It will be I think more step sequencer event based than the OP-1, but I think the intention was to make it an instrument that will work well with the OP-1...plus I think they may be planning to continue to update the OP-1.

I find the OP-1 (as a guitar player that doesn't like menu diving and stuff) that it is a blast to play around with and making good sounds with the synth very easy. Even drum sequencing isn't that hard. The only real step that has kept me away was the recording thing which is kind of hard for me to grasp all the shortcuts (keystrokes, whatever) and it being more realtime than sequenced itself....but I really could get it quickly if I had a tiny bit more patience and my guitar amp got hidden from me haha.

Nils picked it up quickly it looks like. Way beyond what I have pulled off...

The effects and synths are a blast to just pick up and play though.

As a guitarist who has never really known a lot about synths (have a casio sk-5 which is not typically synthy, a few droners and I have a very limited experience of software synths) I feel like I can answer this pretty quickly: as opposed to all other synths basically this one requires pretty much nothing. Not even names of different synth parts and what they do. I haven't explored too much so far (mostly reverse loops + slowing down the tape which brings the fucking AMBIENTSZ), but it is really easy. What I feel the core is is the super straight forward sequencers. I'm still working on getting everything timed right, but as someone as utterly tactless as me it's been going alright, and it helps you. In other words, the post LG made was right ;)

Cons so far:
The pattern sequencer should be made for more steps imo
Another reverb algoritm with (I'm sorry) gated reverb for them drums
A undo function (?) if you accidentally don't switch tracks when you record shit.

All of these issues are super tiny compared to how awesome it actually is. This thing has really sparked my lust for making music again :joy:

Thanks for the pointers Vidret! Just heard that FM synthesis is a hassle....

Also, biebs doesn't play for me so I guess it's personal recommendations :idk:

EDIT: no god damnit there he showed up.

fffffffuck...

Now I REALLY want one :(

Awesome piece of kit, though I'm still 100% sure it's 865Euro awesome :s

They go for 600Euro used, at best, which is still enough cash to buy soft synths nstuff for my ipad/macbook, as well as a couple neat pedlols...:s

I sold an amp I didn't use, and a few pedals I didn't use. I was lucky I still had that stuff around.

The main selling point for me was how powerful it is on it's own, so when I want to make music I am no longer restricted to recording on my computer. It feel soooo good to be able to do all my stuff there. If you are comfy using your ipad/computer to make music then maybe that decision makes more sense

But you did paint that "marx was right" thing in the sketch sequencer, right? that was impressive!!
