Let's talk. I got a whammy 4 and I love it but hate the size and don't really use the treadle as much. Mostly use it for its harmonies and tap it on and off when pitched up for shout high burst. I'm looking to replace it with something smaller and absolutely love the idea off the boss PS3. Bunch of cool sounds in this box and I'm kinda hurting for something new.

My question is will the PS3 get me the sound I want. I like how the tracking on the whammy isn't too good and j still want that sound. I don't want something too pristine however I don't want something so bad that it can do simple chords.

I also have a bitquest on the way but still want a standalone pitch shifter, so this piece of information isn't really important I guess

Essentially, yeah, the PS3 is what you're looking for. The knobs are extremely touch sensitive, but it just requires some practicing.

The PS3 has this beautiful warble sound, especially on mode 11 with no expression pedal that just can't be duplicated. With all the other cool stuff it can do, it's well worth seeking out.

I've gone through a couple of pitch shifters, and I imagine the sound of a PS3 is kinda close to the pitch shifting on the timebender. Decent tracking on single notes but it has such a lofi warbly quality that I love. If you find a timebender I'd suggest go for it. But since size and price were a matter of concern, I think PS-3 is a good choice

I haven't owned a whammy, but I have played one, and the Boss PS-5 seems to get really close to it soundwise without taking up much board space. I got it to play cheesy harmonies, which it was good at, but ultimately sold it because I don't actually ever use cheesy lead lines. It was a lot of fun to use on the whammy mode and quickly jump between two octaves.

EHX Pitchfork seems good for what you're doing.

It doesnt have that less than perfect tracking that the OP wants. Tons of other neat tricks how ever. Love mine.

The Pitchfork is an incredible pedal in itself, I have both that and a PS3 on my board and use them for different things.

The PS3 has more charm, and can do a lot of crazy things, but the Pitchfork is a much easier, straight up pitchshifter and octave pedal (I mostly use the octave down setting on P5). I think they're both worth owning in their own ways.

PS-5 tracks pretty well but doesn't sound clinical. It can do some nice tricks that feel lower-fi, too, along with intelligent harmony. PS-3 is probably more your speed, though, if you can snag one.

I have owned a PS-3, PS-5, PS-6, and a Bass Whammy. I still have the Bass Whammy and PS-6. They are the best tracking of the ones I have owned. I currently use the Bass Whammy because I like the control, but I do miss the blend capabilities of the PS-6. I could have either on my board and be happy.
