Any recommendations? any thoughts on the bitquest, RV-2, or sibling? I'm looking for stuff in smaller enclosures because I got too many big ass pedals

Shitty Reverbs and Lush Phasers
So I've decided to Increase the size of my board after debating on it for a long time. My current board is Tuner>Boss PS-2> big box Rat>Pitchfactor>boss Ps-2> Moog MF104m. I'm planning to add a second dirt, a phaser, and a lo-fi verb. I got the new dirt covered, but I was looking at phasers and shitty verbs. I was looking at the Boss RV-2 or maybe using a Bitquest somewhere along the chain. I was also thinking on the sibling phaser because it can go up to audio rate to give a atonal clangs and robot noises which I like.
Any recommendations? any thoughts on the bitquest, RV-2, or sibling? I'm looking for stuff in smaller enclosures because I got too many big ass pedals

Re: Shitty Reverbs and Lush Phasers
The bitquest reverb is certainly not shitty, or lofi. I think an RV-2/3 is more what you seek, as they sound more "digital" or "metallic". Maybe an EQD afterneath could accomplish what you want, but I don't know if that is considered shitty, but it does have some RV-3ish qualities imo. I think other suggestions could be the reverberation machine, which has a lofi quality, and the RM-1n which can get dirty easily, but it's in quite a big box
Don't know jack about phasers though

Re: Shitty Reverbs and Lush Phasers
Honestly I may skip the phaser in the end as I want to keep my board relatively "small" or without shit that will rarely get any use and sometimes modulation is the easiest one to start looking cheesetastic after a few go rounds. I used to use reverbs like 5 years ago but I found myself having issues with it sounding too clean and pristine or too big. I know being big is supposed to be cool but I like that on synths, I like my guitar to contain a limited space rather than taking it all over.
Know what the big difference between the RV-2/RV-3? also I'm surprised that the bitquest is not lo-fi haha. I don't really mean shitty maybe just grittier, I could always mod the tone of it I guess.

if you do go for a phaser i doubt you'll be disappointed in the sibling. one of my favorites.

good to know! I love the ability to have a depth knob as I like my phasers rather subtle and slow. Only modulation I really vibed with aside from ring mod.space6oy wrote:if you do go for a phaser i doubt you'll be disappointed in the sibling. one of my favorites.

The RM-1N is indeed fairly big, but not huge... that said, there's a reason why it's one of the most loved pedals on here. SO fucking great sounding and just fun as all hell. It can definitely sound crusty/dirty, but can also do the pretty/more pristine thing. The pre/post gain settings on it are also a ton of amazingness on their own, verb removed.
Bitquest verb is great... it can get nastier on the fuzz side, but nothing compared to the RM's tweakability. That said, the BQ is obviously a ton of other stuff in addition to verb... only bummer is you can't footswitch between modes.

I need to take a listen to it once I'm home. Looks interesting although the enclosure is definitely way larger than I would like, and a lot of those features would be lost on me as I don't need dirt at the end of my chain as I can already get that from my MF-104m if I need it after everything else. The infinite reverb modes don't really inspire me but the oscillation and stuff is interesting although I can get some wild oscillations from my 104 too. I don't know a lot of it sounds like stuff that I can do with modular synthesizer noise and my space that I exclusively use on my synth. It sounds like a noise guitarist west dreampopvulture wrote:The RM-1N is indeed fairly big, but not huge... that said, there's a reason why it's one of the most loved pedals on here. I should add I play in a kinda melodic mathy experimental band that has two drummers, and me on synths and guitar. The bit quest sounds great although not being able to change through the settings with a foot switch. it probably would not be as awesome at the end of my signal chain I guess due to only having one reverb mode. It would probably be cool pre dirt where one of my PS-2's go

Meteore looks pretty rad, I use to have a wave cannon and the havoc switch was always balls out.repoman wrote:Shitty verbs (that I love)

Best gritty reverb I love isn't small box.
Amazed nobody's faked the Midiverb II 15s no sampling rate crumple in a pedal yet.

I think the midiverb shit is great but I would have to create a pedal board with a 1u rack space unless I go with the microverb and maybe make a riser in my new board and insert it under then configure some sort of midi pedal to get it on and off but that might be the hugest pain in the ass.rfurtkamp wrote:Best gritty reverb I love isn't small box.

Re: Shitty Reverbs and Lush Phasers
Don't have to do a midi pedal for the II at least, can just do a 1/4" TS standard on/off (plex/Space Echo style) and leave it set on whatever patch you want. The Midi on it is just for program change, which well, I use the thing for a couple effects tops, and typically it lives on #29 like 90% of them still in existence.

Re: Shitty Reverbs and Lush Phasers
Yeah, midiverb II is great for that shit. Friend of mine just scored a minty one for the outrageous sum of 5€. Regarding RV-2 vs. RV-3, I find them to be quite similar, with maybe the RV-2 sounds a wee bit more lofi-y and the RV-3 has longer decay.
EDIT: there are a buncha pretty good comparison videos, I find this one to be quite good:

Re: Shitty Reverbs and Lush Phasers
I don't even consider an RV3 "shitty", imo it can hang with the best of 'em. Sure, there's more pristine sounding, "studio" quality reverbs out there, but when if you're after gritty/lofi fucked up reverb sounds, something like the RM1N or Midiverb might do the trick a lot better.
I've got an Afterneath, which is a whole other animal imo. It'll chop up whatever you feed it , in an eery ambienty way, different from even the mosted washed out sounding 'classic' plate reverb emulating pedal. I highly recommend it, though not for conventional reverb effects or synthy/glitchy/modulated stuff. It's small, top jacks, not too pricey nor unobtainable...
