Custom shop ESP M-II bass, neck thru, black paint, fretboard/headstock binding, p+j pickups for $290.
At that time it was my dream bass, I even had ESP quote me the same exact bass and it would've cost me $2000

If you count standing behind the guitarist for Survivor as he hocked his flanger several times in a row as a prize, sure.

I've never scored anything insanely chic at a pawn shop for under $100 that I can remember. I entered the game too late. I got an AC30 cc2 for about $400 (valued at $600), and once I found a Triadex Muse in an online classified ad for $550. I ordered it C.O.D. and a week later it sold on eBay for about $1200. That funded an entire summer of post-high school partying.

Nice. There were a lot of instruments here once gazzari's closed and all hair bands hung up their spandex.rot gut wrote:Custom shop ESP M-II bass, neck thru, black paint, fretboard/headstock binding, p+j pickups for $290.

Re: pawn shop prize?
The internet has ruined the pawn shop game in my neck of the woods. Haven't scored a steal out of a pawn shop in quite sometime, although every time I see one, I can't help myself and have to go check it out.
I'm always up for a good steal and lately craigslist, and local estate sales have treated me very kindly. Hell Ebay has been kind as of late also. Keyword "guitar pedal" and refine "newly listed" scored me a minty big box DMM for $220 a few months back, and barely missed out on an Eventide Space for $275. Its all about snatching that shit up as soon as its listed, otherwise someone else will.
The reverb.com newly listed bump is nice too. Scored a fresh Arc Klone V2 for $110 last week and yesterday watched a Sonic Blue Fender Jag-Stang in excellent shape fly out the door for $400 in just a few minutes.

Off-topic, but as a noob here, is reviving old threads considered unseemly here? Everybody acts all surprised like "whoa NECRO". I may be reading it wrong, but it comes off to me like "why did this wacky person do such a wacky thing?" In other forums I visit, people can get touchy about NOT using the search function to revive relevant threads.Chankgeez wrote:Unholy necrobump, Batman!
This is a very impressive collection of Roto Toms. That's 21 Roto Toms in all. That is only $33.00 a Roto Tom.

Yeah, I've never been instrument shopping at a pawn shop, but I'd have to imagine that most folks in the business of selling used goods know how to price things up on the internet by now. Or am I overestimating them?braaandooon wrote:The internet has ruined the pawn shop game in my neck of the woods. I think for me, it depends on the thread. If it's a thread where the OP is looking for an answer to a specific question, probably no point in bumping. If it's more of a generic thread like this, no harm done. So, context. That's my opinion. I'm sure others'll feel differently.

General forum etiquette from Ye Olden Days - usually if it's something older, it's "make a new thread" is why.

Whenever I see people dog piling someone about using the search function to find existing threads, it's usually based on a recurring subject - that has been covered to death (or recently discussed) and would probably answer the question had the poster searched and read instead of made a new thread.lost in music wrote:In other forums I visit, people can get touchy about NOT using the search function to revive relevant threads.
I think this subject gets a free pass though. I bought my Otari MX5050-8 in "mechanic's special" condition at a pawn for $135.

Re: pawn shop prize?
Used to pick up dod pedals for like 5 dollars but I guess I should have picked them all up (really out of fashion for a long time). Used to see Ariel basses for like 40$ too.
I just got an AC EHX frequency analyzer for like 120 on eBay...which was pretty good.
Psyvariar 2 for the Dreamcast for $20 (but had to buy a bunch of junk ina deal to flip for no profit...some I kept though).
Internet has killed pawn deals, but I still find deals on tools at the swap and junk stores (like tektronix, fluke, old Stanley, etc...usually because they don't know what it is and are trying to sell as decorative pieces... Like two Stanley 45 planes for $20). I've ran across a few hifi deals that I always pass up (I did get my working grundig console with all the hookups for ferrite antenna and world transmissions in great shape for 80 two years ago built in record player too)
I got my beta lead for 250 last year...and my Sovtek for 200 (but that was the going price at the time...maybe 40 below...). Got my Randall ss head for 90 in lent money (the head was payback).
Traded 5$ in jelly bellies to a vegan wiccan for a brand new ka-bar once...he was going through this faze where he only ate vegan jelly beans...and doing meth because it was the fifth element...he begged and begged for jelly beans (didn't like the dude and really dont like being around addicts but he was part of the street crew up north I hung with for a bit).
