I'm doing rhe same. I really use Randy a lot.dubkitty wrote:what i've figured out to do with the Randy is set the mix so there's some of the clean note mixed in; you can almost follow the melody line, but only "almost." it's good with dirt, too.

Something I've been trying out is to leave an outlet on my power supply and a little extra room to add a more oddball effect. I pretty much always have an effect which I really want to love but it's not in my normal arsenal. I'm trying to leave room to accommodate my finickiness

Similarly I'm cycling through a few pedals that will be for keeps. Also want an oddball. Count to 5 or Bitquest or Randy's Revenge ideally but what I have now will almost get me there. Little real estate little money.

I want a weird effect too but I want to be able to really incorporate it into the music and not just for freakouts and noise breaks and stuff. Randy seems like something I could make a part of my sound.
That Flex XS would be fun too but I feel like its gonna be pricey.

Oh dear, the process of cycling through the oddballs. Got a Misty Cave, need to spend a lot more time with it than the hour I have gotten, but it is such a confusing effect. Really want some weird modulations and stranger out there shit for piling on the solo stuff iam writing, even though most of the stuff is going to be based around drum machine + reverb and bass + overdrive/rat/fuzz. I could probably do 95% of what I hear in my head with half the things I already have, but I remain convinced there are a handful of sounds in my head I have not found yet.
And then I am in multiple projects, so it becomes easier to justify holding on to shit. I just need to spend more time writing riffs I like and less time feeling dissatisfied with what amounts to background noises, pads, and occasional leads.

Re: Effects you like vs. Effects you actually use
Yesterday I put the Possessed on my main board, besides the Raptio. I have a lot of fun combining the two, but curiously I found that it sort of disturbed my workflow. Probably something I could get used to, but nevertheless I ended up putting the Possessed back on the miniboard. Dunno, guess one glitch effect at a time is enough for me. I know "More is more" is the ILF thing to say, but there's something about the subdued, mystical way of the oscillating samurai that really appeals to how I work.

Re: Effects you like vs. Effects you actually use
I got sick of cycling oddballs in and out of a couple of spots, so I just put all the weird non-essential pedals on a separate board that can easily be patched into my main board. Solo gig at a winery? I just bring the main board. Playing a show with a bunch of chiptune bands? I bring the main board and 2nd board and I've got everything I need - no need to change the board around! (but more stuff to carry/load)

It is for this reason that I have been considering buying/building a patchulator 8000 style device. Coming more and more to the realization that 90% of the time I want mostly the same 5 pedals on bass and three of thos are drive/fuzz/preamp style deals. But sometimes I want to bring on the weirdness, beyond chorus. I am sure I will figure something out, with enough time.elevenstrings wrote:I got sick of cycling oddballs in and out of a couple of spots, so I just put all the weird non-essential pedals on a separate board that can easily be patched into my main board. This is how my bandmate has his pedalboard(s) setup with the Patchulator 8000. Basically he's got a board for the input chain (boost, compressor, gate, dist, fuzz, amp simulator, then and "dry" looper) then it goes up to the experimentation board which can be patched any which way with both audio and CV signals, then back down to another "wet" looper and out to the PA. It's pretty badass and for each new song he's got an entirely new set of tones going on.It is for this reason that I have been considering buying/building a patchulator 8000 style device.
