it's not a money thing. it's a stress thing. I went through a sort of mini diy-centric burnout late last year / early this year to the point where I dont have much heart for it anymore. I still want to diy, but for now I want to do other stuff. hollow earth is really complicated to build. it has two seperate boards, a ton of switches, a led display, a little epoxy window for the display, presets, programming, a complicated finishing process, etc. how many boutique pedals are this complex? factor in the fact that one out of two I build has some kind of serious problem. I had redone the entire PCB layout to fix some of my problems. $200 and 6 weeks PCB ordering time later, it made it worse. then I fucking snapped. it's just stress I don't feel ready tackling right now.

if I didn't already have a fulltime job, I would of probably coped with this a lot easier. I sure wont give up on it, but I need breathing room. I need to do other stuff for a little while.

damn cloudscapes that's a bummer.... i'm a fan of your stuff but was not dropped mad $$$ at the time (now i am clearly)..... and now i understand why you never got back to me when i was hounding you last fall for a vibrato....

I lost track of who asked me to build them a pedal in the last year, sorry. I must of recieved between 150 and 200 requests (for different pedals) that I hadn't answered from all over.

are you familiar with microcontrollers? the heart of it relies on one and I have no problem releasing the source code and schematic. it's not super diy-friendly (needing programming hardware and compilers and whatnot) but it's doable. the shem is pretty simple (it looks like this) but it's pretty useless without code.

one of these days I'm gonna clean up the schem and supply the already compiled file, so that people who want to give a crack at it can. maybe sell pre-programmed micros. I'd be scared of selling kits, though. because kits means everyone (even beginners) will buy one and for a project as advanced as this, it'll mean a ton of tech support. if I supply just the schem and maybe the programmed chip and make it clear it's an advanced project, the only people who will try it out are already smart enough to debug most of it.

Completely understandable. Probably the main reason why most small time builders with cool ideas are unable to meet the overwhelming demand. But damn man, you've got some ridiculously original ideas cooking right there. Keep at it man, don't let us ruin the DIY experience for you It isn't a hobby if it isn't fun for you.

I understand what you're saying mr. cloudscapes, maybe you should take a break from building for a couple months, then come back and see if it's enjoyable. (that is unless you've promised some people you'd build them something) I've browsed through your site almost daily looking at the wonderful creations you've made and I'd hate to see them stop forever...

Ok, so I really want to know - what's that treadle pedal? I'm retooling my Dunlop Rotovibe and I'd really like to get my hands on some of that treadle rubber grip surface... I don't like how the Dunlop treadle rubber grip grooves run parallel to the length of the pedal. Perpendicular is far preferable...

Hi guys, new to the board. I was attracted by the Dr Scientist stuff mainly as well as the Mid Fi. I'm using this as my introduction as I've already joined the site previously with a random user name to post a couple of times in the past with only 2 or 3 posts. I'm pretty much here to stay and some of you might now know me as fetch from another forum too for Fender'ish guitars.

Anyway, without further adieu:



It's a pretty simple board but gets me by. What isn't featured is a Boss VB-2, Boss RV-3, Moog Freq Box, Akai Headrush E2 and a Dr Scientist Reverberator. The RV-3, Freq Box and my amp are on the way out for a much simpler setup. I am enjoying this half-way place of owning a lot though--it's probably the most choices I've had in a long, long time. I like stripped down setups. I always have. I believe in using all the pedals in your arsenal for whatever reason. The PS-3 and AD900 are mainstayers for this reason alone. My FF is modified with different components and the BoR was bought for simple guitar-box of rock-amp type setup as I rarely plug straight in. Preposterous. That's like buying a TV without a remote

I only have one electric and one acoustic. I also own a synth, nylon, banjo, 70s 'beat to shit' (pardon the pun) 3 piece kit, couple mics, etc. Wouldn't mind buying up some other noise makers... e-bow and Korg Padkontrol in particular.

I'm doing the whole 'move out to record' thing soon. I'm going to be living near a couple friends and this really cool girl I've been seeing lately. Things are finally on their way up in terms of my having fun with music and I'm hoping that we can share a few discussions, disagreements and all salivate over gear together. fetch, i think your setup is just fine. if you enjoy it and all of it works out for you, you need nothing else. dont let "other places" tell you, you need this or that to be a guitarist.
