The AKAI Timbre Wolf is one of the worst instruments that I have played so far. Nice concept on first sight, terrible through and through once you put your hands on it. :erm:

Here is a copy paste of some first impressions from my new synth day thread on another forum. I'll try and do a more in depth review later, and maybe some ifail clipage

Couldnt help myself, with the features this thing has and its price point I had to get one. Does not disappoint. The polyphony is great to have, and it's got a sequencer as well. It sounds pretty different from my Moog sub Phatty, which is good. They seem to compliment each other quite nicely. The Moog is a bit "sweeter" soundingin certain regards, but the korg is killing it for more modern and out there sounds. It comes with 100 presets and 100 more blank patch spaces. And the Presets actually sound pretty decent for the most part surprisingly.

Design is sleek and its very portable/light. The construction isn't as solid as my sub Phatty, but that was to be expected. Still pretty solid. I do worry that one day I might bust off the pitch stick, but we shall see

Oh and the oscilloscope is fucking awesome

This things seriously kick ass, glad I jumped on it
What kind of stuff are you using it to play?

for $500 you get 4 voice analog poly, sequencer/arpeggiator, patch memory, and a delay. I'd say go for that - seems like the best bang for the buck around. I definitely want one! (I just don't need one haha)...

How much is the minibrute? $400, right? I'd go Korg.

It really depends on what you mean by "synths"

No it doesn't.

Get the Minilogue.

The Brute would be cool as an additional synth, but the flexibility of the Minilogue makes it a better contender.

oh, yeah, if it's "I must buy something" then I would go for the Minilogue, too. I took my enabler hat off for a second, and will flog myself accordingly.

1 knob per function really lets you understand sound shaping, so both are great for that. Consider what sounds you like and your use. The Minilogue will probably cover what the Minibrute does, except for maybe aggro sounds. The Minilogue also lets you save patches which seems like a big plus for me.

PS I like the Microbrute over the Minibrute (love that patchbay)

Edit: I muddled my point.

I have a microbrute and love it, but the minilogue is a way better bang for your buck/more useful synth than any mono synth
