Expression pedals that outputs CV. Any Active Exp pedals?

Post by Uncle Grandfather »

Looks like I'm going to need four expression pedals to use as 0-5v CV source. I guess these would be called Active Expression pedals.

Quick google led me to the EHX Expression pedal, which looks pretty nice. But, its also like 90$ and i'll need at least four...i've already got enough Moog EP-2 expression pedals laying around, so was kinda wondering how easy/hard it would be to mod them...maybe to work with a 9v battery with some sort of way to 0-5v range it....maybe using that knob it already has on it? This is over my head but any input or direction appreciated. Also any experience with that EHX pedal would be great to hear, or any other maybe less expensive options.
:joy:

also here is a look at what makes up the moog ep-2

http://ericsgearpage.blogspot.com/2011/ ... r.html?m=0 might help

Source audios new exp pedal has 3 outs and does CV...but us 215 $

Copilot makes a splitter/converter that goes exp to CV. I think it has 3 outs...sure he could cook up a multi box to go moog ep3 to CV with like 4in/4out...might be the best bet.

Volume pedal will work in a pinch too...like the first link...but a short may happen and burn the volume pedal.

Might also help: http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/i ... ic=81443.0

You should consider a Mission expressionator to control at least 3 Pedals.

On the other hand, the Copilot stuff looks cool. Haven't recognized that yet...

http://www.copilotfx.com/bandwidth.html I know he could make one for multiple pedals. Check with him.

Mission expressionator is nice too like gutmann said.

thanks for the input :thumb: in this application I'm going to want to use one expression pedal to control one cv input. really great idea to contact copilot, a 4 in 4 out would be pretty good solution if that would work with the EP-2 and their TRS cable...time to send him a message.

also just found this behringer fcv100. pretty cheap too....but not 100% that its actually 0-5V CV control although I think that's exactly what it does? anybody confirm this is just an active expression pedal...brains not working yet

The behringer FCV100 might do what you need - and for less than half the price of the EHX.

it clearly says "if you use in CV mode it functions as a CV controller"
it runs on 9v battery or 12v dc...need to know what range the CV is, i guess. don't know why i would assume it was anything other than 0-5V....

I would go with Copilot, seems like a handy solution compared to buying four new expression pedals.

The expressionator does have one big advantage, you can choose different tapers on the different outputs, that means you can for example increase cv for pedal one while you decrease cv for another pedal simultaniously. It sounds really cool when I slow Down the tremolospeed and bring in more delay repeats at the same time

yeah that sounds awesome! in this instance I'm just looking to get control over four parameters on a single effect...kinda like controlling a moogerfooger with multiple expression pedals. its great hearing about these other options too because that's the kinda stuff i'm also very interested in too

i'm kinda surprised by the lack of current production dedicated expression/cv pedals considering the way things have been going :idk:

FX17 has a very peculiar sweep. You'll love it or hate it, no in between.

I despised them when I used them as controllers for rack effects with CV.
