I don't save boxes, I also don't tend to sell my pedals also. The only box I 've kept is for a black Russian muff, just because I wanted another muff.

brands, this is far more common where we live. i've had similar experiences in Sweden with that stuff, very few people outside of sweden seem to care honestly. like some said, mostly collectors and whatnot.:

I also figured that unpacking stuff like my space reverb from the box kind of gave me the feeling I had as a kid at christmas.

The pedal in question was my new production rat 2 that I bought when i first got into pedals. So it wasn't some rare gem exactly

Box nerds are the worst. I slap my dick on all boxes, and the pedals inside and out before packing them up especially for them, in the vain hope they have a fetish for huffing vintage cardboard or whatever. Then I slap wang on the parcel for good luck.

I try to keep the boxes when I have them and they're small enough. I also try to keep the boxes for stuff that'e either expensive or a pain in the ass to move around without it (mixer, etc.) I store unused music stuff in bigger plastic boxes anyway so it makes it easier to tetris everything into place...

Getting a box when I buy something used is a nice bonus, but I care more about the thing being in good condition. As mentioned earlier, people who keep boxes tend to take better care of their gear so having the box available indirectly gives information on the condition of the thing.

Fuck boxes. They take up space and hold a manual that should be downloaded anyways. I will not pay more for a box because the first thing I do is recycle it.

I dislike having manuals when i could just have a PDF, as well as holding onto things as a safeguard for resale value.
Pretty sure i'd have a fucking heart attack if i ever got a Spaceman pedal or something with a big box full of leaflets and other unnecessary shit.

i noticed with strymon pedals some people actually consider the fucking strymon sticker as a noteworthy object of value.

some sellers are just asking for it though when they list stuff using buzzwords like MINT VINTAGE SUPER RARE and then leave out all the detailed information that your average super-anal collector is going to be concerned about.

I still have the OG wooden box from my Sovtek Tall Font, which still smells like the cancer-causing surplus rubber/foam that was wrapped in tissue paper around/inside of it (i.e. really fucking good). I still think that's the apex of packaging for pedal at this point - cool to keep/look at later/sniff, or perfect for kindling.

I once got a pedal in the mail that was an opened manila envelope, flyin' free, it seems.

It was a Boss Metal Core, so maybe anyone who came in contact w/ it just folded the tab over & went on about their business in respect of my future shame.

It's not just pedals where people are willing to pay more to get "original packaging". Toys are another example. "Case candy" for guitars is another example (hang tags, dust cloth, etc).. If people buy a vintage vinyl record, then they want the poster that originally came with it. The poster doesn't make the record sound any better, it's just packaging.

Depends on the object. Toys what it tells you is the object inside is unmolested by grimy children, and the hang cards etc have stuff on them that people like to see.

Now a generic pedal box, I don't freaking care.

Most of the boutique ones I get come in generic white boxes with at most a maker's rubber stamp or label on them.

Production stuff, unless it's somehow a huge thing, don't care either.

What it tells me as a buyer isn't that the seller is generally more responsible but rather they're going to want MSRP for something that sells for 20% of it.

Though I get into the habit of hording all my boxes and not being able to find them when I sell a pedal - then find it a year later.

Yea, on guitar stuff I don't care, but some of the toy stuff I get it. It's also occasionally the irrational "I didn't get a new one of these when I was 8 or 18" and the item with everything's as close as somebody's gonna get.

I see it more in irrational nostalgia purchases (toys) than I do with music instrument stuff. Gun market cares a bit but there it's only if it's a serious collector's piece (at which point it's also never been fired, etc. so "as new" includes all the bells and whistles).

For a guitar pedal, I just shake my head. Because those 1986 Boss catalogs that told you what pedals to use together for a particular sound...really make or break the deal.
