"Do you have the original box?"
What's up with this question? A dude just passed on buying a pedlol from me because I didn't have the box for it. I mean, I guess it's nice, but in the grand scheme of things does it really matter? Or am I missing something?

I certainly like to have the boxes and candy. But, they aren't deal breakers for me.

Re: "Do you have the original box?"
It depends on the pedal. I like having boxes and manufacturer documents, because it adds value to the item. I think a box with papers should net you about $20 extra on the sale for many boutique pedals. When it comes to pedals that are 10-20 years old, then a box and papers might mean $50-75 extra or more.
If your pedal is already dinged with Velcro and syrupy residue marks, then fuck no. I wouldn't even ask someone about a box if it was in player's condition.
If the pedal comes with a box, that's a bonus for storage purposes. I have too many pedals to just leave them lying around, so if I can read a box label off the stack it makes retrieval much easier for me. I think in some cases (and most guitar players aren't this analytical in this respect) if someone has the box, then it might make the seller seem a little more responsible---someone who takes better care of their stuff. ---I say this especially for boutique and high-dollar items. If you went to the trouble of ordering a $679 MF-104M, then you should keep the box. It's stupid to throw it away. It gives me a smidge more confidence that you're being truthful when you describe your pedal as 'mint' and actually still have the box. That makes me think you treated the pedal as an investment and were not abusing it or leaving it on the floor next to a 7-11 big Gulp 24/7 365.
Like others have said, though, boxes aren't usually a deal breaker, but they're nice to have for resale and storage purposes.

I don't have a problem buying pedals without the boxes, but I don't expect to pay 90% of the MSRP if the pedal is beat up and doesn't have the box. Plus the norm is fine with me because when people don't save their boxes, I can get the pedal for cheaper which is what i need a lot of the time, being in college.

Re: "Do you have the original box?"
I always get excited when I find the original box when prepping a pedal for sale or trade. But not because of the whole value thing so much as the fact that it means it's one less thing that I've lost or misplaced.

Re: "Do you have the original box?"
Totally agree with this. When somebody sells a used boutique price range pedal for 10 bucks off of retail, no matter how anal-retentively pristine the pedal is, it'd better have the damn box.Hobbes96 wrote:I don't have a problem buying pedals without the boxes, but I don't expect to pay 90% of the MSRP if the pedal is beat up and doesn't have the box. I guess that leads to the bigger question: where do these fucks get offffff?

Re: "Do you have the original box?"
Fuck boxes. They take up space and hold a manual that should be downloaded anyways. I will not pay more for a box because the first thing I do is recycle it.
I'm not buying Green Russian Muffs of Eventide H9 Max's though... guess it really doesn't matter for me. I don't have boxes for my Chase Bliss pedals and those are the spendiest ones I own.
