Re: Effects you like vs. Effects you actually use
I love Dirt/Fuzz i have three and im looking at adding two more.
BUT most the stuff I put out there is just pitch shifter, delay and verb. The further I move into looping the less I seem to use dirt, BUT THEY ALL SOUND SO GOOD.

Re: Effects you like vs. Effects you actually use
It's a relatively quick and easy way to change something about your current situation, no matter how insignificant it is in the grand scheme of things. Plus you feel like you're accomplishing something, working towards a goal (Epic toanz of course). And then to top it all off you get the ultimate consumer "NEW STUFF!" trifecta of 1-making a purchase, 2-anticipating recieiving said purchase, and 3-finally playing with shiny new toys.Chankgeez wrote:Now I'm not sure I can make fun of either of you guys about it anymore. I literally do the same thing, it's so much more rewarding than bigger purchases too because I don't get the huge regret about spending lots of money.neonblack wrote:It's a relatively quick and easy way to change something about your current situation, no matter how insignificant it is in the grand scheme of things. Aaaand as long as you arent getting bad deal after bad deal you're not losing much, just shipping costs mainly. I don't have any diagnosable mental deals, but I definitely use flipping as a way to bring some consumer joy to terrible weeks.
I'm now at a three board setup.
Normal guitar:
Handful of dirt, tuner, reverb
Bass:
Just an overdrive. Montreal Positvie few. Might add reverb
Noise/drones/loops:
Hella other stuff mashed together and in loops and all sorts of silliness

Stuff i like: huge roomy reverbs and delays, things like the DBA Echo Dream 2. but i don't use that kind of sound i my board, which has five fuzz/distortion deals, Goodbye 24, Randy's Revenge RV3, Menatone Pleasure Trem 5000, EMMA envelope filter, Seppuku Mind Warp, TC Phaser XII, TC SCF Chorus/flanger, Ghost Echo reverb. all the stuff on the board gets used when i'm doing my solo stuff (and we i play with someone like Robert Furtkamp), but when i play with a group it's usually just a fuzz and a phaser or flanger.

Re: Effects you like vs. Effects you actually use
If I don't use it, it ends up in the milk crate of ill repute, where I can plug it in within a couple seconds in a patch point.
But I have enough stuff in-line to whack the moon and the stars already, even after cleaning up the board some (and not counting the rack etc):

The only thing I really love that I don't use much is my venerable Frequency Analyzers and stuff like the envelope filter, bitcrusher vein of things. If I feel the need, out they come.
But really, whether or not you can use it depends on whether you want to spend the quality time to figure out how it flies.
I approach effects a little different than most though; I was a sound dude before ever playing an instrument, and bought a smokin' new from Japan Boss PS-2 and a couple other pedals before I could play a chord.

Re: Effects you like vs. Effects you actually use
Glad to know there are other bipolar pedal flippers. It really does affect my consumer habits in good-bad ways. Good when I am depressed and selling everything I own, bad when I am manic and buying a dozen pedals and absurd gifts for friends. Oh well. Capitalism is hell and there are basically no good reasons for jobs...neonblack wrote:Yeah...D.o.S. wrote:Not that this reflects well on my shipping habits particularly but it spent more time at my apt. waiting to be sent after he paid for it than it did at the neonblack abode, apparently.
Honestly my mental state has a lot to do with my flipping habits. When I'm manic i want to buy everything, when I'm depressed I want to sell everything.
Sometimes both at once.
I am tryna settle on one bass chain for my post-punk/synth-punk band, it will probably look like dirt, modulation, filter, reverb/delay, in some order. But things get so weird. If, when I got my LAL Gomorrah, you'd told me it would be an always on effect in my techno group, I would have been hard convinced. But there it is, after the microbrute. In my post-punk band, I am supplying pedals to the synth player as well.so, sometimes having excess has paid off. Though I would like to have less.

I want to try a Gomorrah but I wonder if it would be redundant with a second voice.
