Rickenbackerish Pickups

Had this stupid idea to make my iceman into a jangle machine. Anyone know of any humbucker sized pickups that have the Rickenbacker vibe?

Proto Guitars could probably do 'em. Don't know if they make stock humbucker sized Ric pickups, but they do make toaster pickups & they do make other humbucker sized pickups. So, they probably could.



They did some toasters for Mascis not too long ago & chatmatt posts here.

most RIC pickup clones are firebird sized, there is someone that do make bucker to firebird pickup conversion plates

they look like standard humbuckers, but the Dimarzio EJ custom pickups sound extremely Filtertron-ish. i have one in the bridge of my Fender bariTele & i like it a lot.

Maybe try GFS liverpools? Those are supposed to sound really nice and jangly.

First off I think the question COULD be a little broad.
Obviously when anyone mentions "Rickenbacker" the descriptor that immediately comes to mind is "jangle".

But which type of ric pickup are you looking for? The earlier "toaster" style or the 70s-present "hi gain" pickup?

You can buy ric pickups directly from the ric "boutique" on their website and they aren't terribly expensive.

Lollar makes his "broiler" pickup which is a great "toaster" type pickup and I'd think he could easily put the guts into a humbucker housing.

You might also look for the dual coil lipstick pickups that danelectro used on their "hodad" models.
Those lipstick pickups are nice and jangly and would get you a sound like you're looking for.

Yep… unless you want the 90's bucker.. your only alternative that is being made that is a direct replacement is the Lemmy pickup… not that I need an excuse to want a lemmy pickup… but the Lemmy has poles instead of blades so it will be different and won't work on those useless guitar things.
