that may be the problem with the SS thing, most solid state amps now out try to be "tube like" or model sounds of tube amps
Nobody is pushing it in another direction

ISP maybe
Yes. That's why the JC-120 maintains its appeal. A spatial effect isn't just trying to emulate a tube amp.
It's trying to do something unique. But once you get into the "out there" or unique, then the market
share dries up.

Not everybody wants the same type of experimental goodness. So it's impossible to please them all
with an innovative design.

If a builder "pushes in another direction" they might find themselves all alone.

i have a Waller G-MAX 100H head (it was ISP's guitar amp line before they consolidated & just started using the ISP brand for everything. it even has a built in Decimator).

it's *possibly* the best sounding head i've ever played through (i've owned a real HIWATT, a THD Flexi, several Fenders, etc).

the only downside, is that the gain channel sucks for pedals (unless you put them in the effects loop) because of how reactive to dynamics it is. with pedals (in front) it gets murky.

they are incredible sleeper amps (i got my head for $112 on ebay).

The "new direction" I'd like to see in amplification is 3-D surround sound.
That way "rhythm" would seem to pulse along the walls while "lead" parts
would seem to have a spatial presence in the middle of a room.

It would probably have to be accomplished using some combo of speakers
and microphones placed along walls so that a "noise-canceling" computer
brain could mess with phase and also completely "erase" unwanted crowd
noise during songs.

I'd also want this amplification system to have the capacity to resonate
the entire rib cage of people in the room without deafening volume. And
of course for encore performances it would have the capacity to generate
the low frequency that makes humans evacuate their bowels spontaneously.

That would be a show-stopper.

Also... this amplification system would have to have some sort of cellphone jamming
capacity so that people get off their devices and inhabit the room. Perhaps the only
really effective way to do that would be to have an amplification system that somehow
triggers the release of dopamine and oxytocin in the crowd. Otherwise they'd
insist on Instragramming and tweeting about their personal low-note bowel explosion.

Roland already did on the new one. Not insane wattage, allegedly passable gain. But...$600.

Woah did I just stumble into a Trump rally? But yeah not just stereo but 3D sound projection would be the coolest. I want my delay sound to creep around the room and tap you on the shoulder and then have leads punch straight to the genitals.

There's a company called Pritchard that does the boutique amp builder thing and it's all solid state. Pricey though. $2000~ for a 200w combo amp.

Will be $600 on clearance realistically, if I look at what Roland's last line of SS amps went out for.

I'm gonna wait for 36 month financing, get one just to put it through the ringer and then send it back.
