Goroth...that idea is the best!!!

ive recently decided im sick of having my 2 shelves of pedals collecting dust...they need to be on the floor being used...not displayed to looked at.
problem is...this leaves no room for actual walking in the room lol.

might have to visit ikea!!!

 yeah, it's a pretty rad idea. I've lived with it for a while now, over a year I think, and I still think it's practical and good. A bit more info about it:

For max utility you need to shave a few millimetres off each end of the shelf so that you can remove them easily if you have doors fitted (they don't fit flush with the cupboard no matter how you hang the bastards). I've added handles to make it easier to remove the pedalboards, felt casters so that the screws from the handles don't trash the floor, and small brackets to increase the stability of the shelves, as shaving them down resulted in a less stable fit. It is however worthwhile having both the brackets and the original little ikea metal plug things, as they keep the pedalboards stable in the horizontal plane. Oh yeah, I had to glue the metal plugs in place as they kept lifting out little by little. So it's not as flexible as I had originally intended, but it's still relatively easy to change things up.

There might be a more elegant solution to the whole thing, but I'm pretty happy.

^ thanks G.
i cleaned out/partially rearranged my music room last night as your post inspired me.
turns out my missus has the same billy bookccase i want in her room, so was easy to sort of gauge.
i wont bother putting doors in, but looking at those metal studs, they deffnitly require reinforcing. those brackets and handles are a good idea.

this idea is bascially a lifechanger for me...it frees up 2 cluttered shelves for storatge,, plus 8+ pedal boards!!!! hell i think i could screw to wall hangers to either side of billy for more guitar hanging space!
i now regret letting go of every single pedal (used, vintage, oversized) as well as not keeping one of each of my production pedals!!!

Sooo, I finally got round to ripping of Goroth:

This is such a good idea! I play in the living room a lot with pedals that are not on my gigging board, and cleaning the mess up was such a hassle every time because I didn't use a board or anything for it. Now I have two shelf-boards that I can switch super easy. And of course, it is fun putting together a board, and now I have two extra boards I can rearrange once in a while! I made them inside an Ikea Ivar closet that fits the shelving system, which looks good in my living room and easily accommodates my small amp too underneath a shelf. This is directly to the right of the closet that holds the shelf-boards:

Still stocking the poor bastards that don't end up on a board in some Ikea Kupol drawers:

Pretty happy with it!

Wanted to thank kosta for the heads up to the Muji PP boxes. Muji opened a big store in Sydney and I popped in and picked up a bunch of these: http://www.muji.us/store/storage/pp-box ... small.html

Hah, Muji are pretty much everywhere here and I use these or similar boxes to store my currently unused small music stuff (and tons of modular patch cables). Works pretty well indeed :).
