so I've always wanted a HOG. and now see one in the BST cheap.
but the HOG 2 is supposedly better in tracking and midi features.
which I don't know if I care about.
plus 99 presets over 6 in a smaller switch.
but also about 2-300 more.
ugh.
is the HOG worth it?
I've eyed it for at least 10 years
I honestly did not like the HOG I at all. I have played them at work when we get one used, and compared to all the other octave and synth pedals out there, including the new EHX stuff, it just sounds outdated. With that said if you want that sound, by all means. My Boss PS-2 is garbage at tracking but that's its charm for me. I could see someone else really digging the HOG, but for me it is too overpriced compared to other pedals that do it better, and with a smaller footprint.

yeah I just watched another demo and think I've lived long enough without it that I got over it
the way I modded the microsynth it does a lot of that just nastier
you play the HOG2? or those other b9/c9 boxes?
I have played the B9 and C9, those are pretty cool and actually sound awesome on bass! A lot of local folk try them and say shit like "might as well play a keyboard" but to me they seem pretty cool especially when you consider combining them with reverbs and modulation.

I want to say "you should definitely buy my HOG" but the honest reply is it might not be for you. The tracking never bothered me, nor any of its festures really. I simply got it thinking I would find it more enthralling and i never wound up being as floored as I wanted to be by its sounds on BASS. But it does cool things. It just never pushed its limits as much as I wanted. If I was still playing in my two drummer one bassist band, I would probably keep it for its ability to freeze string/organ/synth swells and such with separate wet and dry outs, but I am not, I have an Ensoniq ESQ-1, and I feel more excited by other things for the music I make solo. That said, the HOG 2 might be nicer, no clue, I know many people complain that the newer EHX sequel-reissues lack something, but that might be bullshit mojo talk. If you wanted to talk trades, I am open to it, just so you know.

i hate that argument...you play a guitar so much differently than a keyboard instrument...different playing styles are that are impossible on a keyboard instrument are possible on a guitar and vice versa
