Re: The Video Game thread
Looks like I'm getting sucked into Day Z again. Apparently they added more vehicles, but most importantly they finally fixed the awful loot spawns from two months ago.

I'm playing Devil's Third for Wii U. Great stuff!

I know the rumors are going to be false about Dreamcast 2 (and I wouldn't trust current sega ownership/management to do it right anyway), but I still have hope...at least as a saturn/dreamcast emulator that will read discs without region...the dream...but it ain't going to happen.

What did you like to play on Dreamcast? Growing up, I didn't know anyone who owned it, so I have no idea what I'm missing out on.

Re: The Video Game thread
They are still making games for it...but
Soul Calibur was awesome. Under Defeat, Border Down, Gigawing, Gigawing 2, Power Stone, Power Stone 2, Capcom vs SNK, Tech Romancer, Panzer Dragoon, Triggerheart Exelica, Ikaruga, Outrigger, Marvel vs Capcom 2, gunbird 2, Trizeal (I think that was the title...it has changed a few times...Triangle Service anyway)...stuff like that. Shenmue also...there are a ton of interesting, weird, and arcade style games that Sega took a chance on at the time (see seaman). Capcom also had an exclusive deal with them in that era. Last Blade 2 (SNK love on that system) was there too, but kind of a weak conversion.
Gun Valkyrie was also supposed to be for Dreamcast but got switched to Xbox because it "officially" died.
Great "homebrew" games are like Gunlord, DUX, Ghostblade (just came out finally), and Fast Striker (mostly from one set of brothers...they kinda suck, but they make ok games).
Saturn has a special place in my heart though (better games, but harder to find) like Blastwind, the superior version of Thunderforce IV, Guardian Heroes, Dodonpachi, Donpachi, etc.
I know a lot of those games have been re-released in other formats on other systems...but things like power stone don't play right on newer systems.
It also does HD graphics with a breakout box, which is nice.
Part of the reason that the dreamcast is still relevant is that it was easy to code for and a lot of true shooting games are out of time or near impossible to play on modern conversions unless done correctly (games like Ibara and Dangun Feveron don't have console ports and/or emulation is not correct). The dreamcast was essentially the same as Naomi, Sega's arcade system at the time...so when games were emulated they ran at the right speed. When Ibara was ported to the PS2, it ran much faster and was almost unplayable. When people were porting to the dreamcast, it was easier to dial it in to correct speeds, aspect ratios, etc.
Ikaruga, for example, is seen as a game that only the dreamcast version is 100% correct in speeds and stuff. The scores on the Xbox and other versions are seen as irrelevant because of the way slowdown and speed works in the time of these games (and things like hit detection). The gamecube version is almost as good but the download one is considered off.
Power Stone was terrible on the PSP.
So, I guess, mostly us shooting fans are keeping these old systems alive.
Xbox360 had some good Cave conversions...but they still had to be adjusted (and have stripped modes and other oddities...Pink Sweets is like not the same game at all in some ways).

Weird they could never port it to correctly to other consoles.

Steam sale - AGAIN.
it's kind of sad that there's less and less to buy each time and even less that actually looks good to play.

That might be because you already have most things you're interested in ?
There are only two games in there that I think I will buy (there are more that I would like to play but will never have enough time for, like The Witcher 3) : Tales from the Borderlands and Undertale. I'm actually super surprised that Undertale is on sale (not something obscene though, -20%).

What's even sadder is that every sale I buy a bunch of new games... but still only play Civilization V.

Listen to Oarfish, it's heavy.

Re: The Video Game thread
Can't buy any games because I just bought the new Rainbow 6 on sale.
Also the new Rainbow 6 is so much fun. If only it wasn't on UPlay but whatever, too much fun for me to care.
