Fuck/mini is always good too
Behringer vb2 clone? Love vibrato on bass
Wilson freaker wah is fun
omg Driving Notion yes. My favourite bass dirt right now. Clank, nice overdrive, fucked up fuzz... mmmm
For a while I wanted a VB2 clone or The Depths (esp. Bc I am a sucker for those astrology themed pedals and The Depths is my sun sign), but then I felt like I wanted to retrain myself on finger vibrato since I was pretty good at it when I played cello. Then just now I thought about fretless vibrato + a vibrato pedal and I just about melted.

Will keep the driving notion in mind. I like my 141G a lot, but it is probably going to get booted from this new board.

Anyone have thoughts on ring mods for bass? Or using the Boss PS-3 on double detune setting as a weird chorus?

Ring mods are functionally ring mods. They do what they do and it depends on the signal you send it + carrier osc. You'll probably want one with a blend.

-Subdecay and Ring Thing track pitch.
-Frostwave lets you blend internal and external carrier oscs.
-EHX FA is tuned to the higher end (not slow trem effect)
-Moody way has two autowahs built in.
-XR1-E has an env funtion too
-Moog probably has the most CV options (and an env signal could be patched in)
-Randy has a lot of range plus two different carriers (including square)
-Copilot makes a few different ones and the one that Eivind just got custom has a drone switch and is squarewave(I think it lets carrier through...Robotum)
-Metasonix is probably going to be too much/not enough
-Melos/Oberhiem/Maestro sound great, but have less range and overall options.
-Ringstinger (or a clone most likely) will give you a lot of carrier options + octave fuzz
-Frantone glacier (if you can find it) has three carrier options

It all just kind of depends on the features you want...There are a ton these days.

With the carrier, the ones that have inserts for it (passive, moog, frostwave, og SPK, carlin, etc) give you unlimited options too choose from...might have prep the signal a bit, but you at least have the option of running a tone from elsewhere (including something like a microphone, octave doubler, stereo delay or something).
-Ring Mods!

Unfortunately Jeff Caxide's active bass is my kryptonite and the sole reason I prefer The Ocean to Isis. That said, you are probably right.

I had the moogerfooger ring mod for years and loved it, but almost needed something... not simpler, but just different. Carrier inserts and pitch tracking ring mod both sound wonderful. Just tryna keep the brain moving.

Also thinking a lot about reverbs for bass, and everyone in this thread has been so helpful!

Do you follow Juan Alderete online at all? His Pedals and Effects channel has some great stuff, and he's obviously biased towards bass... occasionally he'll even to a fretless + effects bit:

https://www.youtube.com/user/PedalsAndEffects/videos

Also, he's an official demo guy for Earthquaker Devices, but I've gone to see him do a demo session (he came to a shop near me last year), and he does not mince words when it comes to the low end - he straight up skips anything that he thinks doesn't give enough girth, or that he feels is boring.

EDIT: also, I forgot, he does a fretless thing on the Fairfield Circuitry Meet Maude, which I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE on bass:

(Right now, I've basically got my Maude set to be a weirdo-freakout oscillation machine, which I manipulate with an expression pedal, and it's soooooooper fun)
I have followed pedals and effects loosely for a while. Someone doing regularly updated demo videos with fretless bass feels too good to pass up.

Just watched the Meet Maude video and aw, fuck. My boyfriend took a break from quilting and walked in, heard the video, and was like, "I really like that, it sounds pretty, you should get one." Or something to that effect.

I would add an Eventide H9 Max to your pedal board.

Almost all of the effects have different modulation choices (ramp up, Sample & Hold, etc) can be tap tempoed or locked to a midi clock (you are working with synths so there should be some Midi around, right?).

You have an almost limitless pallet of sounds: Delays, Reverbs, Pitchshifting, arpeggiations, resonators, chorus, phase, flange, trems, ring mods, filters, leslie speaker sim, etc.

Hard choppy squarewave trem on bass is really cool, especially with Fuzz. I like the Zvex Sonar for that. It's EXTRA choppy and has tap tempo so you could use it in places where you would normally be doing 8th notes or 16th notes. Or super fast for weird fluttery choppy action with your fretless slides and such.

I really like suboctave pedals on bass. Just play high on the neck. I don't know how well it would track with fretless but I imagine pretty well.

Also, anything SS/BS makes.
