Everything up to Decades is awesome. Divine had its rad moments then after that it became a shitfest

Yeah, I can agree with that. But I don't fuck with the shitty emo spectrum, so it's not necessarily a bad word in my book. Many of these records are among my favourites, and pivotal ones in the wide sense of the genre I guess? CFD is more on the boring side of things, still Portraits of Past, Bob Tilton, and that Rainer Maria is gold. The Deadwood Divine, acoustic 'mo crucial sadness.
Goroth, u bring tha memories! Haven't heard the Arcturus album unfortunately, but those other two I,ve listened to a bit.

1996 was a decent year for Punk Rock.

Soundtrack to the movie RAD turns 30 this year.

This is a very impressive collection of Roto Toms. That's 21 Roto Toms in all. That is only $33.00 a Roto Tom.

Re: Rad albums turning 20 this year.
Holy fucking smokes! 1996 was a good fucking year in music. Like, top of the pole.
Reasons:
1. Thanks to Biggie and 2Pac, rap had blown up... but Eminem had not made it annoying yet.
2. Thanks to Nirvana, alternative rock had blown up... but Smash Mouth had not made it annoying yet.
3. The absolute heyday of Midwestern emo (read: the only emo that really matters, ultimately), with the career-defining debuts of Jimmy Eat World, Texas Is The Reason, and The Promise Ring (among others) coming out in this year.
4. Fucking Pinkerton (a "Desert Island Disc" if there ever fucking was one) came out in this year. #Respect.
5. Also, Cake's Fashion Nugget, which is one of the albums I heard as a kid that expanded my idea of how rock music could sound, what sounds good on a rock album, etc., and helped me find my voice as a songwriter.
6. I was 10 years old... I really remember a lot from that year... TWA Flight 800, that fucked me up. I remember seeing footage of the wreckage on the news and thinking, "Some of the people probably got ripped apart by sharks." The next day my mom took me to church and the issue of Our Daily Bread had a Great White on the cover and I thought, "God's just confirming for me, they got ripped apart by sharks." Later on I went to my first family reunion, still have the t-shirt, and visited the graves of the first people in my ancestry to land in North America. Got a Nintendo 64 with a fuckton of games for Christmas. Good year.
7. Also "The First Big Weekend Of The Summer" came out in 1996 and fucked if I don't feel super Scottish when I listen to that song.
Alphabetical favourites:
Arab Strap - The Week Never Starts Round Here
Boys Life - Departures and Landfalls
Cake - Fashion Nugget
Christie Front Drive - Stereo
Current 93 - All The Pretty Little Horses
Dave Matthews Band - Crash
DJ Shadow - Entroducing...
Earth - Pentastar: In The Style Of Demons
Edge Of Sanity - Crimson
The Frames - Fitzcarraldo
The Fugees - The Score
Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt
Jimmy Eat World - Static Prevails
Jonathan Larsen - Rent (Original Broadway Cast Recording)
Karate - Karate
Modest Mouse - This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About
Native Nod - Today: Puberty, Tomorrow: The World
Neutral Milk Hotel - On Avery Island
Outkast - ATLiens
The Promise Ring - The Promise Ring
The Rheostatics - Music Inspired By The Group Of Seven
The Roots - Illadelph Halflife
Stars Of The Lid - The Ballasted Orchestra
