Does this exist?

Post by aholidayatthesea »

Is there a sampler that allows you to mess with a constant incoming audio signal?

As far as I know, the kp3 is the closest thing because of how quickly you can save a sample from incoming audio, but you still have to save it first. Is there a sampler where you can recall different segments of incoming audio in real time?

Does that make sense? I want to playback sections of singing from a vocalist at the same time as they are singing.

Yes. It's called a backup singer. They come with a huge amount of RAM and can do all sorts of amazing things with audio in real time.

I'm pretty sure you can do all kinds of neat stuff like that with an Octatrack but that's almost definitely overkill...

Yeah basically what Oscillateur said. Octatrack can do all kinds of shit but it may be more than what you're looking for. I love mine.

Well, I think I found a software version of what I'm looking for.

I feel like Kaossilator may have something like this? Erm, Kaoss Pad....

From the webpage on the the K3+:

"Newly-designed Looper lets you freely manipulate loops
For greater usability, the Looper effect has been modified to let you loop the sound starting from the instant you touch the touchpad.
- See more at: http://www.korg.com/us/products/dj/kaos ... XHHV4.dpuf"

Sounds like it might do what you want...I seem to remember Jonny Greenwood doing some kind of instant granular looping thing live on Thom Yorke's vox with a KP Quad? Everything In It's Right Place maybe?
"In a moment of unparalleled genius, Noel Parachute headed off this potential disaster by unplugging the microphone."

I have a kp3 and it doesn't really do exactly what I'm thinking of.

I think this is more what I'm looking for.https://www.modulargrid.net/e/mutable-i ... nts-clouds

Guess it's time to get into modular and join the crowd.
