Meteore vs Ghost Echo vs an amp maybe?
I'm selling my Blue Sky because I don't care about huge, clean, pretty, ambient sounds anymore. I want a sweet dirty reverb that will work for my Alvvays covers and my Women rip-off songs. It needs to be gritty and haunting, without a volume drop.
I'm torn between these: Caroline Meteore, EQD Ghost Echo, DBA Reverb Machine, Hungry Robot Stargazer, Fuzzrocious Afterlife, RRR if I can get a decent deal on one.
Don't recommend an RM-1N unless you know of someone who is selling one RIGHT NOW for $250, which is my max budget. I know I want it, but no one has them in stock and I can't stretch my budget $50 to wait. I need instant gratification. Bonus points if I have money left over for a pizza and some NYE beer.
Meteore is the front runner, should I consider any of the others more carefully? I will mainly be using Fuck>DMM>??? as my signal chain, if it matters.
Edit: there might be an amp for grabs in the price range. See later posts.

Re: Meteore vs Ghost Echo vs ???
RRR is clean as fuck but works well with dirt. Most options but no spring. Dunno if you care. But plate is a pretty good substitute.
Ghost Echo is simple and great. No volume drop. Maybe a tiny boost but nothing crazy.
DBA Verb is like rm-1n lite so if you're looking for something like that, DBA might be the way to go.
However the Meteore seems like maybe a little more...polite? version of the DBA. I wonder if the clean dry signal+dirty reverb signal would be weird.
If I were in your shoes I'd pick the DBA Verb with the Ghost Echo as a close second. Or the Meteore cause I'm curious.

I have both the Meteore and RM-1N, in my limited use (i recently got them both) they're kind of similar (the rm-1n has a lot more options and 'less tame', in the best way possible) , the havoc switch on the meteore sets it apart from the others you mentioned to get those bursts of oscillation.

Re: Meteore vs Ghost Echo vs ???
The DBA seems fairly limited to me. If I can find one $175 or less I'll be tempted, but it's hard to justify that price.
I've had an RRR before and traded it for greener pastures. I really liked it and it sounded great, so I don't really mind that it's clean and doesn't have spring.
Meteore is still itching my scratch, but I've always thought the Ghost Echo looked really cool. That would be easy enough for me to try another time when I had more money. If I found a good deal I would buy one and not look back.
Reverb man, what a drag.

Re: Meteore vs Ghost Echo vs ???
Didn't I get my RRR from you? Like neon says, it doesn't do dirty on it's own.
I really love my météore. On my pedalboard I keep the dirt on it at 10 o'clock or lower, but that's because I have other dirt happening. I actually like it by itself quite a bit. I've been plugging in tuner, rangemaster, météore (with the dirt knob up more) and been having a really damn good time.

The Earthquaker Levitation seems like it could be interesting. Not dirty, but interesting.

I have been on a reverb hunt (for fretless bass) forever. One feature I have found I NEED is pre-delay. Blue Sky has, Ghost Echo, Red Panda Context...most others seem to overlook

Oh damn, PGS coupon means I can get the DBA for $170.
Things just got more complicated, but I think that might be the route I take!

Re: Meteore vs Ghost Echo vs ???
Out of those mentioned I tried the Ghost Echo, Reverberation Machine, RM-1N and RRR.
My favourite is definitely the Ghost Echo from that pack, it just has so much character, it's also one of the few reverbs with a pre delay / spring type sound that I actually like so far.
As for the Reverberation Machine, that is my least favourite, the dark setting sounds great with vintage low output Strat singlecoils but hit it too hard on the lower strings, especially with more powerful pickups, and it will choke completely.
On higher notes there doesn't seem to be a problem, which makes the sound of the pedal even worse as it isn't consistent at all.
The bright setting is bright and kinda noisy, I dunno.
The RM-1N is great but I don't like the noisy bits of it that much really, it gets pretty compressed and loud soon.
Compared to what it takes up in terms of funds and pedalboard space I just don't think it's worth it.
Lastly, the RRR is a great no nonsense reverb pedal that sounds good and works in many different setups.

Re: Meteore vs Ghost Echo vs ???
Hmm, after some demos you might be right about the DBA. It might be too fuzzy.
This shit is tough. The Meteore sounds super awesome but I can also get a Ghost Echo for half the price, which also sounds awesome.
Fucking reverb man.

Just get a ghost echo and run it before a dirt pedal of your choice and then you can have your very own fuzzy verb. GE into a Fuck or Mini works pretty amazingly.

Fuzzonaut about the RM-1N:
"Amp in a box"?
No, there's no amp in there - tone fairies and feedback goblins live inside this box.
