Post by letsgocoyote »

crosspost:

ok, so i uploaded a demo track or two I self recorded a week or so ago.

Just uploaded a bunch of rough mixes and incomplete tracks for you guys to check out/critique. Im open for constructive criticism (aka let me know some pos and neg things to work on). Granted I already know I am not strong vocally.

Anyways, theres a Wolf Computer solo on Sand Dunes

I listened to Sand Dunes, the unt. instrumental, and one or two others. I dig it!

Your vocals actually work/sound quite well with the music, don't know what you're talking about.

I like your songwriting style. Very minimalist. You've got a nice drum sound, too.
Sky Blue is my favorite, followed by Eastern Shores.
And I dug how you kept the WC solo subtle on Sand Dunes.
Keep up the good work, man. I'd buy yer LP.
well i guess, but i just don't know.

Not totally my cup of tea, but very nice! THe mix sounds really good. Seriously is that the Tascam or is this from a studio?

Love the Wolfie solo, such a distinct sound.

this stuff isnt from my tascam, its at a 'studio', well basically this friends home studio/music room.
he has all sorts of high quality mics, rack pres, etc. we recorded into what i believe is a 16 track Fostex. and of course we had lots of different guitars and amps to use.

in my opinion there is no reason you couldnt record something just as good on my little Tascam 4 track, but the approach would be a bit different because it has no built in EQ or reverb, and you'd have to bounce tracks down a bunch so you could record more layers, but you defintely could do it... as long as you can capture all the raw audio, half the magic is in the mixing i think, adding reverb, eq, and compression, messing with panning and levels, etc.

my personal opinion, i kinda want the wolf comp solo in sand dunes to be mixed alot hotter, but maybe thats because it sounded epic when i played it because i cranked the wolf comps level knob into a Fender Twin. it was brootz. but actually yeah it does sound nice mixed subtley and i should probably keep it that way due to the musical style

I think the solo should be brought out a little more, not a ton though, because I think that would get lost very easily if you were listening on some not so good speakers, or weren't paying too close attention. Those are some good songs, though
