Re: Toan goals 2016
I have more or less reached my toan goals. I think I've reached the peak of discovery a couple of years ago, when I was up for whatever and had NO IDEA of how to use most of the stuff. That led to a wealth of discovery about myself, my playing and pedals. Now I've become more of the master of my toan. The pedals on my board all work for me and my playing. And they all add to an overall toan that I think will be recognizably 'me'. However this does not mean I don't gas for some (a lot of) crap. Some of it might be similar but an improvement to something I have. Just because I'm satisfied does not mean there is no room for improvement, right? Some gas might just be for shit I want to try and see if it fits. Most of the stuff I want to try falls into the synth/filter category. But it will be a while before I can give in to that craving for experimentation, until then fortunately I can always go deeper into the awesome shit that is my board.
I want to play out more too, but tell that to the rest of my band. Lazy bastards!

Re: Toan goals 2016
I honestly don't have any gear desires right now. It's weird. These last couple months I've only been able to seldom play and it's fucking me up. I could see myself with a couple delays and an overdrive and that's it. Seems to be all I use now anyway. WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME????
I need a way to play that I don't fear annoying everyone in my house. That's part of the reason my fuzz gas has died so hard.

Maybe you need a break from all the bass? Pick up a guitar/synth/modular/drum machine

Dang, forgot about the my grind/noisecore project too (I guess because it isn't that far off from the normal project...hypotheticals always stay that in my head haha)....goroth wrote:Get more ninja at changing settings on the bitquest.
Try and utilise effects more, but also without making them stick out like a sore thumb.
Shred more.
More palm mutes.
Find a nice chainsaw tone that isn't just a knock off of old dismember. Finally get around to writing and recording my one man grind-death project. That currently only exists in my head.
I'm going to add sit down and freaking be patient we the OP-1 (not that it is hard, I just haven't touched it in a while), MIDI, CR-800, and the Alesis SR-16.
Get some jams going.
I'll add shred more once I learn how to in the first place...good ones goroth!

Re: Toan goals 2016
Set aside enough cash to hire a proper luthier to rebuild my RD Standard bass.
Sort out some speaker deficiencies I've been faced with.
More tape deck time.
More interesting circuits.

Re: Toan goals 2016
There's a comparatively inexpensive one in Riverside... cheap enough that I've almost considered asking my homie in Bakersfield to grab it next time he's down in LA and sending it here...lordgalvar wrote:Sunn Model T (life long dream...since like 1996...going to save and save and do it no matter the cost (within going rates).) though I will probably just use the beta lead more often than not...and I know this is a dumb goal....I don't even like that band haha.
On that note, I'd love a first-gen Model T and a blackface Bassman. And to finally replace my Hiwatt, but that's looking further down the line...
I'll probably rehab and sell this Peavey bass cab and get a 1x12 for home jams, but I can't stop looking at big cabs and loud amps that I really don't have the space (or performance needs) for. Maybe I just need a storage unit...
Only pedal I really want to keep an eye out for is a Superfuzz in good shape, though I will likely buy and sell a few other things without ever picking one up...
Maybe I'll finally buy a better bass...

Wow! Thanks for the heads up...don't have the cash right this second though....
But more importantly...you have friends in Bakersfield? Crazy! From there and four generations (or more) or of my family are from there.....ummm...yea
Maybe, time to flip? Could probably raise that in a day or two...

Sell all of my pedals except for my Klon, Holy Grail, and a delay. Sell most of my other gear and stick with my EGC's, Bastin Jazzy, and Science Shiv. Finish redoing my wife's P Bass again because I'm selling my Jazz Bass, and pay off my King Buzzo so I can buy a Benson Tall Bird Tube Reverb for my Science

Mmm Sr-16!lordgalvar wrote: I'm going to add sit down and freaking be patient we the OP-1 (not that it is hard, I just haven't touched it in a while), MIDI, CR-800, and the Alesis SR-16
I loaded some sr-16 samples into ultrabeat, or whatever it is called in Logic. I think I have a pretty nice sound going on, that is obviously digital and totally fake, but still pretty rad and brutal. So that'll work for recording, I think, but I'm buggered if I know what to do to replicate it live without feeling like I'm playing to a backing track. It's that age old drum machines for idiots question
(In my live drum machine project that doesn't exist either)

Maybe do a melt banana kinda thing where you trigger loops off one of those midi footcontrollers (like the behringer I used to used with my adrenalinn years ago)...goroth wrote:Mmm Sr-16!lordgalvar wrote: I'm going to add sit down and freaking be patient we the OP-1 (not that it is hard, I just haven't touched it in a while), MIDI, CR-800, and the Alesis SR-16

Then kinda switch it and mix and match loops on the fly. Keep the guitar sound more static/chainsaw and just shread/riff like mad....i dunno? Will still feel weird, but at least it wont be you waiting on a track...more improv over set loops (like this one is 3/4@250, this one 5/8 @ 150bpm, etc....). Kinda get loose structures going and let pedals do the work to vary the pitch and rhythm of the drums (with delays, shifters, distortion, and filters)? I dunno if it makes any sense...just suggesting stuff that I have seen work.
My friend used to do percussive sounds on guitar and kinda bend them til he got kinda drum sounds...then would loop them and build really weird grindy dance songs. It was fun, but I don't know how fun it was to watch live, you know? I think he would through korg ms2000 and hr-16 loops in there with distortion sometimes for breakdowns.

Re: Toan goals 2016
I'm in the middle of building a music room, I got it mostly framed out and insulated and next weekend I will buy the drywall.
All this so that I can play and not drive my wife and daughter nuts.
It's small but it should sound good and be comfortable.
I have been running my bass into a mixer and from there into my iPad, back to the mixer than into studio monitors and my peavey combo for the low lows. My only real need is a decent audio interface for my iPad. I. With Jwar, mostly I just use OD and maybe some delay. Although it's always fun to step on the great destroyer and fuzz and oscillate out for a bit.

Re: Toan goals 2016
I'm really satisfied with my gear and have been for a while now. Pretty much since last summer. The Verellen really tied it all together.
Things I'll get for sure:
I should think about upgrading my iPhone next year and I'd like to slowly and carefully build a bike too.
Things I'll get for sure:
- OBNE Dark Star
- some kind of pedalboard and PSU for the Descent and SEA I keep on the Moog
- a nice electric twelve string guitar, but I'm not set on which as I haven't found one that I find cool and affordable enough for a guitar that's gonna be my number one or even my number 3 (please Jeebus, Squier VM Electric XII)
- maybe a BitQuest, I think it's a nice swiss army knife of awesome and I've been meaning to get my hands on some Ryan science
Good deals: OsbornKT, Phantasmagorovich, UglyCasanova, DarkAxel, Skip, D.o.S, ColdBrightSunlight, Eivind August, Goroth
