Your Favourite Fane-alike?

Post by fever606 »

I just picked up a vintage Hiwatt cab, but it's loaded with modern 75watt Celestions. Ideally I would have some mid-70s purple-back Fanes to drop in it, but they don't grow on trees... and neither does the money to pick up a quad of them right now.

So, what's your favourite Fane-alike, or replacement? :animal:

Here's the cab, a 1975 SE4123 that was stripped and stained green...

Haha thanks, man! I got it with the intention of recovering it and getting it as close back to "stock" as possible, but I gotta be honest... the green is growing on me!

As an owner of a pair of AXA12's, a Medusa 30, a one of a kind modern Fane manufactured Crescendo prototype, and a busted Studio 12L I'd say jump on a quad of the new F70's and call it a day.

The AXA12's are generally uber expensive and it could take time to put together a quad, though sometimes one pops up for a good price. The Medusas just seem to have all disappeared (30, 100, & 150), and the same with the Studio 12L's. The Ascensions are new, and not terribly expensive.

I like the FC12 from Weber. I put a ceramic one in my Verellen and it's really convincing and somewhat affordable if the Fane sound you like is the Crescendo sound.
Good deals: OsbornKT, Phantasmagorovich, UglyCasanova, DarkAxel, Skip, D.o.S, ColdBrightSunlight, Eivind August, Goroth

Yeah, I got it from Philly (actually bought it in September but hadn't been able to coordinate picking it up until recently)... the guy I bought it off of name-dropped the FL connection, not that I care either way.

I'll check into the Tonker, thanks! :thumb:

I've seen people toss around putting ET65s in their Hiwatt cabs, that's something I was hoping someone here had experience with...
