I get a "jazz tone" by playing with a lighter pick and softer attack. I alternate between a Jaguar and a Harmony Hollywood and I use the neck pick up exclusively, tone rolled down a bit (and on the Jag, I'm on the rhythm circuit). More low end and mids, less treble and sparkle I think is "jazz tone".
Thick strings help too I'm sure.

Pete I can mod your SG to have one, my friend and I did the same to his Melody Maker.

I'd definitely be down. Tone knob seems real helpful.

So what do we suspect the tonal differences are of a symmetrical vs asymmetrical body? I definitely get the thin nitro, lets the wood ring a lot more instead of being essentially muted in plastic.

I have no idea how to explain it but just compare an SG or double cutaway LP to a single cutaway LP or a Jag/JM to a Strat or Tele. The double cutaways and offsets seem to be more aggressive or lively than single cutaways and non-offset body guitars.

I'd be into that actually I have changed the covers since this picture.. they are chrome and I have a 50¢ piece as a switch ring also a roller bridge so it now almost stays in tune

I had an original Convertible, but got rid of it because I couldn't take the bridge slipping all the time. Other than that, I loved that guitar. Should've kept it and fixed the bridge.
