Dude, you probably know about vend and the facebook group for gear B/S/T but if not check them out. A week ago there was an old traynor tube head for a laughable price. This one seems like a good deal as well, Music man amps are cool. https://vend.se/322730-musicman-hd-150-rortopp

Yeah, Vend I know of. Just didn't know what to actually look for on Vend.Brandsmannen wrote:Dude, you probably know about vend and the facebook group for gear B/S/T but if not check them out. I'll check that one out! I live in Stockholm too so no need to pay for the whole shipping thing. Tried to google up some opinions on the HD 150. Found next to nothin'. I love that - makes it exciting.

It's tough buying amps here. You don't see much kvlt going round, I've never seen a sunn or an acoustic on the second hand market. It was cheaper for me to get a hand built custom amp than a second hand dual rec.
How much do you want to spend?
You should come up to my place and jam on some amps...
Music out on all streaming services and bandcamp and what not.

Yeah, that's what I've figured out too. All the go-to iconics simply don't show up here. How much did you pay for your custom, if you don't mind telling? Was it made in the US or locally?goroth wrote:You raaaaang?!D.o.S. wrote:I assume Goroth will chime in with some knowledge regarding the amp landscape in Sweden, but these are all great suggestions so far.

I don't really have a spending limit but I am fond of the budget-but-still-great category. Not picky and I don't mind some character. Same reason I mainly play Matsumoko-built guitars/basses. All bought for like ~1500-3000kr each ($175-$350).

I've been spending the last couple months writing and recording this demo in my living room. It's getting close to being ready for release now. I'm in touch with a female vocalist so that's the last thing on the to-do list. Then it's time to start packaging and pushing the demo on the unsuspecting public.

Software, specifically the Kuassa amp sims, selected pedals and good 'ol music production trickery. I work at a music software company so I've had plenty of time to learn the production part of it all.hbombgraphics wrote:Doood, you are getting those tones with software????

Re: I am amp-less, help me rectify this.
I use a Laney AOR protube head as my main after having to ditch my Verellen.
Gotta say, I almost don't miss it. It has been modded to take KT77's and has a low end response switch (tight or loose). I plug in to the low gain input with the gain channel off. Preamp gain up to about 7/10 and master volume to taste. Sounds great through my setup.

Re: I am amp-less, help me rectify this.
Sounds like you've similar requirements as me, back when I was amp shopping. I'm partial to tubes amps personally, head + 4x12.
I'd say pretty much any decent 70s/80s high wattage head that was originally marketed as a bass amp would work. Or most Plexi/Bassman type circuits generally make decent pedal platforms that handle lows well imo.
I've got a Traynor YBA-1, which is arguably 'high wattage', but it's still ungodly loud and packed with tons of clean headroom, and it's called "bassmaster" for a reason
Also have a Laney AOR. The build in dirt tones aren't for everyone, but the clean channel is loud and clean and really receptive to fuzz/distortion abuse.
There's more good options ofcourse, I'd look into other old Laney models, as well as Peavey/Musicman if I were you...

Re: I am amp-less, help me rectify this.
Thanks! I'm super close to just grabbing that Musicman HD 150 top that's being sold in Sweden. Just sent the guy a message. Being both a guitar and bass amp appeals to me, because I play both but also because guitar through bass channel is always a good idea.frigid midget wrote:Sounds like you've similar requirements as me, back when I was amp shopping. Fwiw, one of the reasons I wanted to learn about the HD 150 head: It's apparantly the main guitar amp in this insanely awesome Stockholm (I think) based instrumental trio called 'Town Portal"...oarfish wrote:Yeah, Vend I know of. They've gone up in price the last couple years though, seems like a lot of people are catching on to the fact that Musicman amps have a spectacular pedigree, but without the price or collectability of vintage Fenders. And in terms of quality/reliability they're supposedly way superior to, say...Sovtek
Too bad I didn't try one when they were going for 400ish euro, nowadays a good condish one seems to cost roughly twice that :s
