Vox AC-15 speakers....

Post by frigid midget »

I know about the typical choices for AC style amps, but what if I weren't into the same kind of vox tones as everyone else? I might wanna try something more beefy inthere, with more low end, like maybe a speaker thats usually associated with Marshall stacks and what not.

I was thinking maybe a pair of G12h-30s would handle loud fuzz a little better than the greenbacks that are in my AC15C2. Can't really put my finger on it, but its like that amp is lacking definition and...I dunno,...balls :idk:
Or maybe the WGS Veteran 30, which supposedly fixes the stuff I normally dislike about vintage 30's...:idk:

Eminence has a couple speakers that seem worth a try, judging on the reviews and clips...But they're usually rather pricey around these parts...:s

Anything else out there worth checking?

I really wanted to try loading an AC30 with EVM 12Ls when I had one.
I imagine it would sound... stupid loud.
And maybe sound bad.

But maybe good!

Exactly the sort of stuff I'm wondering lately. I'd like to kinda have a rough idea of what I should expect though, speakers arent as cheap and easy to buy/try/flip as pedals....:s

If you play with fuzz on a lot. Try something higher powered. Those greenbacks are probably breaking up too soon. OEM Mesa or a boutique V30 type, G12H-30s, or G12H-100s are all good bets for the British speaker camp. Something about those heavy magnets.
