Must've been priced pretty well--did a straight trade with a guy for an almost new Voodoo Lab Pedal Power Plus 2. Bye bye, messy adapter cables. Hello, order.Chankgeez wrote:That does look pretty nice, HAVN, pretty nice:

Re: please, post photos of cheap hollowbodies w/ humbuckers
Tone question: some electric guitars have, to me, a woody tone to them. I regretfully don't know how to describe it other than that. I guess I'm thinking of jazz tones mostly, like Julian lage or somebody like that. Is a big hollowbody the way to get this? Somehow I associate this tone with hollow bodies, jaguars, and jazzmasters, which collectively have nothing in common.

Re: please, post photos of cheap hollowbodies w/ humbuckers
Well, that's sort of a complex question. (In addition, Mr. Lage has recently been playing stuff that's not quite as overtly jazzy.) So, it kinda all depends on what you'd consider to be a "jazz tone". Traditionally, that'd be a hollowbody with a humbucker in the neck position. Tone rolled off a bit. Flatwound strings also help things get woody. Yeah, Fender hoped the Jazzmaster would appeal to jazzers, hence the name. So, yeah, you could also say that those Fender models could achieve jazz tones. Teles are another popular choice amongst jazz guitarists. Not much in common there either.
Hollowbodies are a good way to start getting that tone though.

Just roll your tone knobs off. I think what you're hearing though is the difference between symmetrical/asymmetrical bodies and poly vs. nitro finish.

I don't have a guitar with a tone knob hahaha
Yeah I don't really intend on playing tradititional jazz, I just dig that tone and would love to bring it into what I'm doing. Might look at teles too. Always liked them. All I have now is a melody maker sg so pretty much any guitar will bring some major variety haha

Don't be fooled, PeteeBee, I almost always have my tone rolled all the way off and I rarely sound like I'm playing jazz.PeteeBee wrote:I don't have a guitar with a tone knob hahaha

Thin nitro finishes for lyfe.
If anything you get a really fuzzy/warm tone with your tone knob rolled off.
Pete I can mod your SG to have one, my friend and I did the same to his Melody Maker.
