Danelectro Spring King?

Post by neonblack »

Does anyone have any experience with these? I know Dano isn't really well regarded but dammit I want real springs and I'm too lazy to DIY it. I heard there's a mod that disables the delay chip for pure drippy goodness. I'll probably run it into some dirt so if you've done that, let me know how that worked out

Basically does it sound like shit?

I personally hate it, too pingy and high endy for my likes. But this will probably work a lot better for a surf sound, which I know you love

If you're going to mod it, rather than remove the delay, just add delay controls. Full featured delay and verb.

That guys also shows you how to wire in a different spring tank, which would make a big difference. Sspring tanks are cheap as hell.

Used to have one. Modded/broke it by removing the delay-chip.
I was supposed to remove the chip and put in a resistor(to get rid of the slapback effect), but I'm really clumsy with the soldering iron and the parts was REALLY small,
so I was unable to install the resistor. But it worked with just the chip gone!
Used it as "always on spring reverb", and it was ok. Not great, just ok.
Sounds way cooler pre gain. It's fun to kick though.
Sold it to fund some guitar building project. Miss it sometimes.

Adding the controls seems even easier than removing the chip. adding the controls for delay is only one soldering point each.

I used to have one and loved it. Like said before, getting rid of the delay is pretty crucial, and it sounds best pre-dirt. It's really bright, and kicking it through a fuzz is glorious.

I have one and agree that it's great pre-dirt and it's fun to kick. I've always wanted to have a mix and feedback knob for that slapback. It seems to have a long feedback and overtakes the springs. It would be dope as just single repeat though. Wish I knew how to mod pedals.

I also just found the Recovery Effects Endless Summer mk2 but the demo doesn't really do much for me. I want to want it though cause real springs, but the guy playing in the demo won't palm mute so I can hear the drip.
