Pedalboard Order Suggestions

Post by plaidbeer »

I went overboard and got a bunch of new pedals during Black Friday and would like some advice, please.

I currently have a DOD 250>OD3>Rat>MS-70CDR>boost>Pathfinder 15r. I just got in a Polytune 2, LSTR, DD-500, Alter Ego 2, RV-6, and am getting a Super Spring Theory in sometime late next week. I'm thinking about having the Super Spring Theory after the tuner and before the LSTR for pre-dirt reverb and because Catalinbread suggests placing their Topanga near the beginning of the signal chain.

My issue is that I'm not sure where to place the MS-70CDR,which will primarily now do modulation and sometimes reverb. I was going to have the RV-6 near the end, after the DD-500 and AE2 and before the boost. Suggestions?

Place the RV before the cdr, so you can Fuck with the reverb using the modulation. :!!!:

I'm glad you enjoyed reading the thread. My next few threads will center around Klons, which tubescreamer to pick, and the eternal debate between who's a better player, John Mayer or SRV.

i place everything on the board and hope to hell that they jsut fit. Only rule i go for is reverb > delay > looper > tuner > amp. I like having the tuner at the end of the chain. I dont know why. I also have a clean boost at the end as i pretty much only use it for solos.

There is no rule really, sometimes i just place pedals on the board because they look the prettiest in that order and pray they all play nice together :-) so suggest you place them in the most aesthetically pleasing order and then see if it sounds how YOU want it.
Im not back. Im just front

Some modulation I like before dirt. Some I like after. It just depends. Other modulation I never use with dirt so then it doesn't matter. It can be tricky if you use some sparingly to figure out where you might want the zoom to go.

Grab a beer and start experimenting. It's the only thing that works, though the beer is optional.

This makes me so friggen happy,

If you are using the Zoom mostly for modulation end of the chain is probably good,

Fuzz after reverb is fun and awesome sounding.
I always put my tuner at the end of my chain, to use as an instant mute.

Thanks for the tips, everyone. I had everything on the board at once and wasn't getting any signal, so there's a borked patch cord somewhere in there.

The "have a beer and see which cord is the culprit" test will have to wait until Wednesday night.

I'm pretty sure having a small switch to Mute your signal would be a trivial project to do,and it would make tuning less of a tap dance. :idk:

DOD 250
Rat
OD3
boost
Polytune 2
Super Spring Theory
LSTR
Alter Ego 2
RV-6
MS-70CDR
DD-500

That's how I'd do it. Tuner in the middle, so you can stomp it and still get "trails" of every time-based effect. DD-500 last for looping and other delays. LSTR after spring reverb for nastiness. MS-70 near to end so that you can mess with the mushy textures created by the delays and reverbs.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.
