15" Speakers for Guitar

Post by aeonrevolution »

I've got an Earth 2x15" cab that is in desperate need of new speakers now that I might seem to be actually playing with people in the near future.

Just curious if you guys had suggestions on what to buy. My Ampeg VT-22 has Eminence Man-O-Wars and I love those. Their same product line has the Big Bens for 15".

Also, I have no friggin idea how the hell to open up this Earth cab yet

I did a bunch of searching around for something to go with my old Fender and I went with the Eminence, too.
Am I remembering correctly that it's maybe hard to get the right ohmage on 15" speakers? There's less choice if you need something specific...

Do you know what the difference is between the Legends and Big Bens by any chance?

Also, as far as ohms go, I have no clue until I figure out how this lock box of a cabinet opens. I'm just gonna check whats in there now.

All the Eminence 15s look like they're 8 ohm speakers, so he has a choice between a 4 ohm and 16 ohm cab in a 2 x 15 configuration.

Was just about to rec these speakers, love them.
They're very high sensitivity so they're loud as balls, and pretty high wattage so they can handle a lot.
Heavier than god but they're worth the weight.

I can't see the pic of the Earth cab but if it's like the Peavey 215s (and I feel like I read that a lot of the Earth stuff is the same designs) then you've gotta pull the front grill off to access everything. My Peavey 215 has those super tough little round velcro pieces at each corner. I had to wedge something under the edge of the grill and pull to dislodge it. Take that with a grain of salt since I can't see the pic and don't want you to wreck anything.

Legend is cheaper, lower wattage, designed for American amps. Those were all things I was looking for.
