Those are lovely. But, here's the OG.

Put EMG's in 'em and they'll sound just like any other guitar with EMG's in itD.o.S. wrote:Tonewoods.

Price is always a subjective thing. Obviously, he's seriously looked at the amount of labor time that one of these commands, and has incorporated that into the price.casecandy wrote:Beautiful. Overpriced though!
For some bizarre reason, lots of folks think that;
a) Pfft!! Made in a garage. Should be cheap.
b) Pfft!! Guy's doing what he loves. He should be giving them away!
or, my personal favorite...
c) I can get a quality (insert favorite guitar company name here) for half that!
At the end of the day, an honest day work needs to be compensated. Last time I checked, "good will" never put any food on my table.

I've been entertaining the idea of building my own lap steel in the past couple weeks. This looks fucking sweet. Are there any bigger pictures?blakestree wrote:Those are lovely. But, here's the OG.
This is a very impressive collection of Roto Toms. That's 21 Roto Toms in all. That is only $33.00 a Roto Tom.

NOT AT ALL. I'm fully aware that a) people should be compensated for their work, all the more so if they're doing what they love, IMO, and b) things are "worth" what people are willing to pay for them (fallacy of instrinsic value).digi2t wrote:Price is always a subjective thing. BUT...
Point c) above holds up. A guitar made of skateboards is a novelty I'm not going to pay, like, Fano, Suhr money for. Personally not my thing.

Re: Prisma Guitars - upcycled skateboards
Think of the time it takes to clean up a single deck and cut it down enough to then bind together with several other decks to have a usable block to make a guitar body out of. Once you've taken however long that takes and have a sizable blank to cut, you're then starting where Fano etc are. Extra steps = more time = more money.
Do I think they are expensive? Hell yeah, but I also take in mind the amount of work that it must take (consider the time it takes if the neck is also made from decks) and I don't think the price is uncalled for. Dude makes it all from pretty much scratch.
Not telling you to like them, just saying that the labor involved seems to justify the price.
