Do you mean to control pedals via CV or exp? Get a custom broadcast from Copilot...it will work in the most situations. He will build whatever you need and it seems to function better than things like the 8-step.

Electro lobotomy makes some too...but I would stick with Copilot.

If you are looking for like a guitar arp? Pitch grinder or something like that I guess?

I looked at the Broadcast a long time ago... i'll go back and check it out. Thanks!

I really want something that is similar to a synth sequencer where you can create the patterns, add rests, hold notes, change octaves and it is using the guitar's signal for the sound. Is there something out there like that?

He can do that with the broadcast. He just put 4 in one box that can be on or off I think....check his facebook page and talk to him.

The reason it doesn't work like in the synth world is that you need a continuous signal to really make guitar pedals "modulate". Synth sequencer send the note and gate and let the envelope, etc. do the work...so it isn't continuous (the problem with the 8-step). Much like the sweep on an exp pedal, the guitar cv/exp expects there to be some kind of reading at all times.

The broadcast sends a continous LFO type sound...and when sequenced with mulitple LFOs running at different levels (or a custom LFO like the nu-vibe) can create what you want with pedals that don't work with traditional sequencing.

An example using the 8-step, broadcast, and goatkeeper:

What you are talking about would be a traditional midi sequencer with triggers and program changes and require a pedal to be controled via midi. Most pedals don't really have octaves like that, they are dependent on your guitar signal...so to switch octaves with pedals with most "guitar" effects would require a sequenced relay to turn on an off the octave...

An example of a sequenced relay system for switching (replaced or jumpered a DPDT relay onto a DOD DFX94 delay/sampler and drove it with a copilot broadcast I think on random or step):

When using a sequenced LFO, your valleys at 0v CV (or off in the the pot world/full value) is essentially your rest.

Otherwise, what you are looking for is something like what darkbarn just got or interfacing your guitar to the modular world with some kind of pitch tracking and arp setup.

Much like what snazzy is doing here (but he is doing it for the effects and envelopes and stuff...but there are things with pitch tracking...maybe rigging up a FreqBox or something with a sequencer could get you there, but I kind of doubt it would be what you want...and no real octaves...it would all kind of be tweaking to get it right and you still might not):

(sorry to post my own videos...just been down that road and came up with a few answers...)

Goatkeeper is essentially a step sequencer too, but I find it less versitile in controlling effects than the broadcast overall.

The other idea would to be just to use a roland hex pickup and then arp the tracked note I guess? Then mix both signals back together with a wet/dry...I dunno...that might be the easiest and then it opens up FM and a bunch of cheap sequencers (like the beatstep).

The problem with the 8-step is it sends the information and then cuts signal so that it acts like a super short peak super long valley LFO to a lot of pedals. Would be fine controlling a synth or something able to recogize that it doesn't send continuous (like it triggering an envelope).

As an arp for something with a release and decay, it is fine though. At least that was my experience with it.

Here is what I was talking about...brainzilla not broadcast (broadcast is a part of it though) http://copilotfx.com/data/wordpress/201 ... lfo-pedal/

Ahhh, ok, now THAT looks interesting. Wish there was a demo of someone using one. Can't find one on YouTube.

Harpeggiator from Pitchfactor/H9 has 1 and 2 octaves up/down + other weird patterns that work alongside rhythm patterns.
There are 26 pitch patterns and 20 rhythms and it's a dual pedal. So you can basically have thousands of possible combinations by using these 2 parameters. Then you can add FX and that's even more fun.

The downside is you can't do custom patterns and the time is always set to 4/4.

Look at the patterns here if you are curious about it:

And also I'm using a Goatkeeper, it does the job, but it's kinda boring on its own.

Adam is a great dude and will answer any questions you have...he might even have a video he hasn't posted. Seriously an easy dude to work with.

That is a great suggestion also and an alternative to the hex setup or other pitch tracking....

But going to stick with Copilot and the effects I love (anything with an exp/cv in the guitar world can be used with the broadcast family as far as I can tell)

Also agree on the goatkeeper...it's like too sharp or something too...

as mentioned, you need a brain to be controlled via the sequencer, since most sequencers just send info to the brain and dont produce sounds by itself (just a ticking sound)

Dang how did I forget about that awesome thing! If I were in the market for sequenced pitch shifting, that'd be the place I would good.

Good call Resin!
