Peter Hook was all about it! And some other goth rockers if I'm not mistaken. That must count for something!

I've just reconnected my trusty old Clavia MicroModular to my computer, started patching a few things... :!!!:

I bought this wonderful little red Swedish box of synthy awesomeness about 15 years ago, had tons of fun patching stuff with it and using it both to generate sounds and to process my other instruments and basically stopped making new patches for it when I switched to Mac laptops a few years later (partly because the OSX editor for this is a mess). Anyway, I got a PC recently to do some programming at home and the 15 years old Nord Modular editor runs fine. My little USB MIDI interface was recognized without any issue too...

The funny thing is that I realize now that I have (unsurprisingly) a much better understanding of basically everything related to modular synths. I've got a small eurorack modular now and I also have quite a few more years of experience using and reading about synths, I understand what all the basic modular building blocks do and how to use them to get what I want, etc. So the process of making a patch that does what I want it to do should be much, much easier :).

First thing I want to do : a nice and warbly stereo chorus + clicks/noises/interferences generator + sound degrader. Ideally mapping the 3 knobs so that each one gives me just the range of control I want over several parameters. :animal:

Yeah, that thing is just great. Do you have one ?

I spent some time listening to the (simple) generative patches I had in there, I could do a liveset with these, a couple of effect pedals and a looper. Not even talking about the effects that thing can do.

Right now on my right I have the MicroModular, an EHX 22500 looper, a quNexus and my 3U eurorack and that small setup just looks so nice and powerful... :animal:

Fuzzed out flange guitar tone and my first clip with the Chase Bliss Spectre, although it was a subtle use.

Chase Bliss Spectre -> Fuzzhugger Algal Bloom v2 -> Roland Space Echo RE-150 -> Amp

Clip replay at 0:34 and shows the buildup from clean to flange, to fuzz.

Picture of what I was working with from the setup of the day:

"I've had a crazy busy week so I haven't even had a chance to test the Spectre until last night at 2am, and I am in love. My favorite Chase Bliss pedals yet. It is noisier than the others, but I dig it. I was also feeling extra fuzzy last night because I was angry about a couple things. But the fuzz took care of it."

I've got Windows 10 and things seem to work fine so far. It's for Macs that there's an issue because Clavia never released a proper OSX version of the editor and the one that's available is a beta that's not fully reliable. Some people made another editor for the NM but it's very picky too and I never got it to work nicely with my Macbook Pro. But on Windows, no problem so far. Which is great for me, it's like getting a new synth :).

Alright, need help finding a gift for my nephew...he really wants to play drums, but my mom (his grandma) wont let a drum machine exist at their house (nor does his mom, my sister)...(as of yet, we will wear them down once they build their autoshop/workshop)

So my mom said to get a drum pad...but what is a good one that will encourage a kid to play (he is about 8 years old) and somewhat grow with him (basically something that isn't a toy...but easy and fun).

Found a Simmons Porta-Pad (from the 80s I guess) and it is beat up but around 130...anything else I should look for? Looking to spend under $200...

Doesn't need all the sounds, just a few pads so he can get some rhythm down and learn and mess with, you know? ('cause I don't...haha)

Or just go like one of those single pads or something?

That's not fun.

Just get him a regular drum kit. :snax:

I'm not sure I understand the "no drum machine" thing.

Maybe you could smuggle one of these into the house?

I kinda wanna get my niece or nephew one of these:

Not a drum machine per se, but you could hook stuff up to it to make noise when you make contact with it whatever you've got the sensor connected to.

That is kind of a good idea actually!

We also "toyed" with the idea of the little bits.

He'd probably get the pocket operator faster than I did...kids and their technology! haha

Going to get that ototo thing....totally perfect, thanks Chankgeez!

Just got a pack of fishing weights, clipping them on my strings makes the coolest bell-like and throbbing-low tones!

Not sure if I'm late to the party on this one but I'm having a blast
