a trash guitar, from the garbage can

Post by friendship »

I was walking down the street and some dudes were cleaning out an apartment of stuff and putting it on the street with the trash. This little guy was there so I took him home. It is dusty and dirty and the previous owner put electric strings on the treble side but it sounds neat. And it comes pre-stickered with gold stars!

You guys think bore oil is good to lube up the open gear tuners, or should I get some WD up in this?

Like woodwind bore oil? Or something you use in firearms? Or something automotive engine related?

Woodwind variety, I've used it to treat fretboards but don't know if it works as a lubricant; it's petroleum based.

Hmm. :idk:

Well, if it's the only thing you have, I'm not sure it can hurt anything. I think a lubricant specifically for metal'd be better though.

Yeah you're probably right. I'll break out the WD. I've got new strings coming for this guy, I'm going to tune it to some low alternate thing. Not sure what yet.

Oh shiiit that's a good idea. It's got a parlor type body so that's extra tribute.

Mmm, excellent. I have a soft spot for old, small bodied acoustics tuned low. I have an old Harmony Stella and a 30s SS Maxwell, both with trapeze tailpieces, birch bodies, and an assortment of cracks that I keep tuned down somewhere around Bb...ish. Makes those tiny guitars sound massive.

I had a dog ear p90 mounted in the soundhole of the Stella for a while, which was great fun.

So the action is mad high on this thing. The neck is only slightly bowed, surprisingly, so I'm thinking about shaving the bridge. I've never done it before but seeing as how I got this thing for free, I figure why not?
