I was wondering if any of you got to play the Death By Audio Ghost Delay ?
I have a hard time finding reviews and feedbacks on this one..
On paper, it sounds really amazing, 3 delays cascading into each other, it sounds like the perfect shoegaze pedal to get a really massive sound without having to use 2 or 3 delay pedals...
I never seen them for sale or and they don't seem to get much love on ilf either !
Any inputs would be really appreciated !
PS: I recently snagged a Thee Fuzz War Overload and it's probably one of the coolest fuzz pedals I've ever had !!!
I love mine. It's great for just washing everything over in the color of sadness. Being able to select how loud you want the delay to be (along with the master volume knob) is an ace idea as well.
Like everything from DBA its unique and amazing sounding. Has additional stereo Aux output as well that only carries the first two delay signals, nice touch. Also be sure to check out the Red Witch Titan, its a three in one delay that has an f/x loop for the first delay...and a toggle to run the delays in parallel or series. They are both alot of fun, and have quite the different character from one another. I pull out the Titan when i want more definition from the repeats, and the Ghost when i want to create more textural things. I scored Thee Fuzz War Overload too, so great.
it sounds rad/ambient/washy and can bring out some cool rhythms, but the lack of full control over mix and not being able to dial out the shortest delay, which runs at the end, was a deal breaker for me. if that doesn't bother you, you'll probably love it.

Pretty sure all three delays are the same on mine. Maybe I should double check but they are supposedly all 30ms to 700ms according to a quick interwebs...

Because the GD and RM are so beautifully dark; goosing them with the Rangemaster for emphasis is borderline magical, to my ears.
It completely changes the tone/timbre and brings the noise and repeats to the forefront.
yeah after playing around with mine they are definitely all the same. Another difference between the Ghost and Titan is the Titan has individual volume controls for each delay, with the Ghost there is one master volume and then a four way wet/dry mix selector. The wet/dry mix is pretty awesome There is some goosing i have to do with the master volume when i move through the wet/dry settings. That AUX output isn't effected by the Master Volume, but it is by the wet/dry mix.

maybe he changed the circuit? if i have one of the delays set for a quickish repeats the overall final sound is still going to have that quickish repeat going, its just the frequency that the pattern is repeated is affected by setting a longerish repeat after it...if that makes sense.
Maybe look at that Chinese (?) demo that was put up on youtube shortly after they released it. That should be the old circuit (if it has ever been changed).
I've wanted one forever, yet never pulled the trigger. Don't know why. Delay is my favourite kind of pedal too.

i read that oliver got the idea for the ghost after stacking a bunch of echo dreams. once I read that I just assumed that the delay circuits were all three the same and were identical to the echo dream circuit. somebody wanted me to make a demo showing comparing the echo dream to the ghost, but i havn't got around to it yet...pretty sure they are identical sounding as far as the basic time/feedback "sound" goes, but we'll see?
I run synths and pre-recorded loops through multiple delays and modulation processors, so I was eyeballing the DBA Ghost for a while. I was concerned it might be too lo-fi/harsh or that it could only do one sound, but was never able to try one in-person. I picked up a Meet Maude from Fairfield Circuitry this week, and I couldn't be happier with it. It's dark, it's lively, it's got so much body and such a unique character. I could never see myself parting with it. Having the Maude also means I no longer am looking into the Caroline Kilobyte or the dark Malekko delay.
If you're looking for a less expensive dual delay, you might research the VFE Mobius Strip. I had some success also with stacking the Mooer Ana Echo pedals in series. I've got 15 delays now, so I've been slowly unloading all the extras, but the Maude has become one of my favorite delays ever produced----included amongst the Moogs, Diamond pedals, Empress Tape Delay, Strymon Capistan, et cetera.

Its got an overall brighter voice than maude. those wet/dry settings change the sound from..sorta nice fidelity between 1 and 2, to more lo-fi washed out in 3 and 4. its certainly not a squeaky clean sounding digital delay, and it doesn't have that dark analogue voicing some digital delays try to emulate. the real variety comes from how you set the three delays in combination with what the mix setting is at. cool rhythmic clean repeats all the way to resonating wall of sound waves that pulse.
i love it, shoegaze scenario and all, being able to mix in is what i want every pedal to have, but am not sure i'll ever have it in a rig. not sure why yet...
