Recommend me a real spring verb!

Post by neonblack »

Obviously I want an Orion, but I'm a poor noise rock barista so I'd like something a little less expensive if possible.

I wouldn't be opposed to an amptop model if it had a footswitch but I would like the option of putting it before other effects (dirt, looper) without much trouble.

What's the one with the mermaid on it? I can't remember

Really though, if you know of a really good pedal, maybe dsp based or whateverz, I'd probably go with that too.

Also has anyone used the Ekdahl Moisturizer?

little lelani is the mermaid one.

UG has a moisturizer. Looks cool, but haven't used one.

Vermona makes some nice verbs like the lancet verb and the retroverb, but I have heard that the actual sping reverb might be a little weak (but they do have env controls and lots of options).

If you can find one, Alamo spring tanks sound nice and are fairly cheap (they are tube).

The Multivox MX-312 tape delay has a nice reverb in it and sometimes can fall through the cracks and be had cheap. The multivox and alamo are the two reverbs I have liked best so far, but I am not really that much into reverb (except when I make shitty attempts at surf guitar...but yea). I liked both of these better than the DBA one I had and the boss stuff I tried.

Another option would be to just source a cheap tank and get one built (or DIY it) from somebody in the sharktank. Like what that tomkat guy did. There are kits out there too...just build the tank into your pedal board.

Mine is for surfy noisy stuff too so I'll look into those for sure.

Got some googling to do. I liked my DBA verb. It would be really cool with a real spring instead ofthe brick. And the layout got released online... Oh damn. That might be my tax return present to myself

Van Amp Sole Mate uses a real spring tank separate from the control/stomp box. Idea being that you can mount the spring tank under your board/out of the way and have a pedalboard friendly spring reverb unit. I got it because the springs are exposed allowing manipulation. Great sounding unit.

Moisturizer is insane. Highly recommended and much more than just a spring reverb

Surfy bear FET reverb gets a lot of love over on surfguitar101 if you're handy with a soldering iron. Parts are like 100 bucks but you gotta source your own cabinet and reverb pan I think.

isn't a pedal but the retroverb is sick. even has a button to slap the spring.

Hmmmmmm.

I'm lazy and probably just going to buy a Ghost Echo

Not getting anything for a while though. I've been told to stop buying things by an anonymous person because apparently I have something coming for Xmas! Hope it wasn't a Fuck or a Gravitas. But if it was, I'll take a second one of either

For real though, if its a Fuck tell me now so I can change my order

Yea, the vermona stuff is always pricey, but I have seen them for as low as 250. Not very often, but it has happened (kind of in the moisturizer range, I guess).

Surfy bear was the kit I was thinking of. I should try it some day...

Even less with the blackout option! Which I would totally go for. Man, that might be the one!

Upon further review, HOLY SHIT. I want it.
