I want a Twin Reverb, but not.

I like the Twin Reverb sound, I don't like the price or the weight. Combos preferred, 50 watts max. What am I looking for? Classic 30?

I would say a Hot Rod or Deville, or whatever they are called. I haven't tried one myself but a lot of the local bands gig those and they sound pretty close to my 68 Twin.

Peavey is good. Clasic 30/50 are gorgeous though the 50 brings the weight.
There are lots of less popular fenders in the kind of 40w range from the 90s.
Ampeg reverberockets are also pretty fucking nice.

You should also look into Traynor combos. I hear good things about the YCV40.

I had a Peavey Delta Blues as my first tube amp in the late 90's...cool sounding cleans but just not enough volume to hang with a hard hitting drummer. A 100 watt head and a Mesa 1x12 Thiele with an EV will be loud and clean an not very heavy and that EV can handle 200+ watts so you'll never have to worry about it blowing up. If you want an open back sound then that won't work.

The Peavey won't get you to Twinland.

Look at the various Hot Rods with 6L6s. If you want Twinesque stuff, and have to have tubes, 6L6s or bust.

For supremely lighter, the Fender Mustang combos do a surprisingly good faux Twin.

To my knowledge, the DB is the same circuit and wattage as a C30, but in 1x15 or 2x10 form, and with the addition of tremolo. I haven't played either of those, but I've had two Classic 50 2x12 combos. It is heavy and loud, but the clean isn't as sparkly as a Fender..a little more Masrshall-y I guess. For some that's perfectly serviceable. I know PumpkinPieces has used a C50 4x10 for a long time. Good workhorse amps, just not a Fender. Also, the C50's have built in fans, so be aware if you plan on using it to record.

This. in addition to the Pro Reverb, there's the Vibrolux Reverb, which I have, and love. Nearly the same amp, except it is 2x10, instead of 2x12. Super loud. I keep it at about 2 on the dial. but again, Not cheap.

When they show up, a bunch of the time Yamaha G series and JX series amps go pretty cheap, especially the JX since people don't know much about them. I thing it's the VX that cops a bit of JC120 look but is probably similar to G series and JX series. Solid state but really good sounding warm clean things, and the overdrive on my JX-25 is surprisingly pretty good, to boot. I think I've seen JX-55 and/or -65 for $100 or less.

Not quite the same, but if 22watts will cut it, maybe at low volumes a deluxe reverb might get you twin-ish tones without the huge sound and weight

A Hot Rod Deluxe has considerably more headroom, and though it's not at all a small light weight amp, it's still not an insanely inconvenient beast like the twin.

My third tip would be to check out old musicman combos. All those different models are hard to keep track of, and I have zero experience with musicman amps myself....But they're supposedly top notch quality, and I'm sure at least one of those models should be able to pass as a small/cheap twin

Deluxe Reverb is voiced pretty darned differently and much lower headroom (6V6s don't really end up being Twin-like).

212-sixty five is a helluva a lot lighter than a Twin Reverb nor is it's cabinet as deep. Alas, most MusicMan amps are powered by EL34s not 6L6s and the difference is pretty obvious at high volumes.

Vibroluxes are awesome but the one I had sounded more like Marshall roar above 5 than brutal loud clean thing that twins do.
The old Pro Reverb circuit is a twin in 50 watt form iirc.

Something kind of weird to look into would be Peavey SS amps that pedal steel guys are into, huge super clean sound. Probably very cheap.

I might just take the speaker to use as an extension cab for whatever I buy to replace it. My amp doesn't sound nearly as good as the Twin I get to play on every once in a while, but it being old and dying might have something to do with that.

Which version is your G100 (Mk I, II, or III)? I have a G100 Mk II 2x12 that I had serviced a few months ago. The pots were dirty, the Q knob made a loud popping sound, and I wanted the caps looked at due to the age of the amp. They said the caps were fine and cleaned it all out for ~$75. Since then I installed a pair of CTS speakers from the 70s that I found found (pretty sure they were OEM Fender speakers) and it really changed the personality of the amp. For the first time ever the overdrive section doesn't sound like garbage and is pretty usable. IMO you should at least get your amp fixed, which will make selling it easier if you still don't like it, and try a different speaker.
