HM2. I turn the gain knob all the way down, bass all the way up, treble to 3 o' clock. Doesn't get much better than that. The old Marshall Guv'nor is also phenomenal on bass.

Re: Your Favourite Bass Overdrive?
I've used my old Boss Turbo OD on bass a few times, and know a bassist in a metal band that likes it too. Also the Skychord Truck Loud is awesome on bass. It doesn't take out any low-end, use that sometimes at rehearsal as a boost or nasty od. Used my Basic Audio Tri/Ram a few times (flipped that), but it definitely sounded fat and great, though moar fuzzy. And can attest to the Fairfield Accountant being a nice comp for bass, it gives you a little grit and push that's just perfect.

I'm gonna third the DOD Boneshaker, and also go with Bigchief on the Dr Scientist Elements. Heard great things about the Truck Loud, too, but not tried it myself yet.
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

Re: Your Favourite Bass Overdrive?
I was gonna suggest the Hotcake. It's kinda muddy and dark at higher gain settings, so I figured it'd make sense to try it for my bass. So I brought it along for a gig. First time I used it on bass too, didn't really know what to expect.PeteeBee wrote:I really <3 my mtl positive on bass. It's a hot cake cloneish thing. It only has two knobs but it is easy to get the sound in my head, which is all I care about.
I was kinda blown away, a couple different guys I dind't know asked me about my gear after the show. Didn't really know what to tell em, I just had to give all the the credit to the Hotcake
I ended up testing it against a bunch of Boss pedals, a DR Scientist Elements, Rat, and a couple others I can'r remember. And the Hotcake was the one that colored my tone in the right way witout messing with it *too* much, and it added some nice thick grit, with a kind of fuzzyness you don't usually find in typical 'overdrive' pedals. I suck at describing sounds, you should just look for a hotcake or mtl positive to try out yourself
I have to say though, a lot probably depends on what particular bass and amp you're using...

depends on the 250 you use too. Some let bass through better than others. But as much as I love them they're a 'leave always on and fuck with your amp a bit to make it sound like a bass again' pedal for sure.

Re: Your Favourite Bass Overdrive?
I'll add the BAT Black Forest to my list. I just got it so I'm not completely used to it yet but this thing can make lots of really nice sounds. Cranking the gain and then lowering the volume on the bass a bit actually gives me slightly different results (and a better sounding I think) than just lowering the gain...

I like my Greyscale Amulet or my Bass Bloom, but will also use a TAFM or an Elements if I be inclined...

Fairfield Barbershop
Dunwich Volt Thrower no diodes or Schottky settings (Fuzzrocious Rat/Cat Tail is pretty good too)
D*A*M Ezekiel no diodes setting
BAT Quantum Mystic (like a DOD 250 with tons of bass!)
